ESE 2A offers a detailed comparison between two Rolex Datejust models, the automatic Ref. 16234 and the Quartz Ref. 17014. This post provides a valuable side-by-side look at the aesthetic and technical differences between these two distinct interpretations of a classic Rolex design. Collectors interested in the evolution of the Datejust and Rolex's foray into quartz movements will find ESE 2A's observations particularly insightful.

Hello all,
Today we will look at two steel DateJust + fluted bezel in white gold.

DJ 16234 Y54 Swiss Made

DJOQ 17014 9.6XX XXX T Swiss Made T

I changed the scene background, it was not going well smile

Jubilee bracelet for both, but in fact there is nothing in common: 17010B for Quartz (no EL), 62510H for automatic, with EL 555B

Clasp, similar on both models

Let the watches "rest" a bit and take "pose" for us wink

The dials are similar, timers closed, however on the DJ we note a different font for the Roman numerals, and points of Tritium at every hour on the DJOQ, note also the differences in fonts, and obviously, the words "quartz" and "perpetual" smile

The difference of thickness in cases is significant

Movements do not have much in common: 3135 on the DJ, 5035 on DJOQ (nevertheless, some gear trains of 5035 Quartz are the same as that of 3035)

Let's make love, after all, it's spring ........ wink

Oh my God, we should never have let them as long sad

They gave birth to a 26mm in 176200 !!!!!

I would have preferred a Daytona, but hey, it's an automatic, it is already well

Well, I hope they have seduced you, do not hesitate to add information and comments.
Not forgetting to say which you prefer....

Ciao wink

About the Rolex Bubble Back Ref. 3135

The Rolex Yacht-Master reference 126655 is a contemporary expression within the brand's nautical-inspired sports watch collection. Positioned as a luxury sports timepiece, it combines robust construction with refined aesthetics, distinguishing itself from the more utilitarian professional models. This reference is notable for its use of Everose gold, Rolex's proprietary pink gold alloy, paired with a matte black ceramic bezel and a matching matte black dial.

This 40mm model is equipped with the self-winding caliber 3235, a chronometer-certified movement featuring a Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, offering enhanced precision and resistance to shocks and temperature variations. The case is crafted from Everose gold, complemented by a bidirectional rotatable bezel with a raised 60-minute graduation. It is fitted with the innovative Oysterflex bracelet, which consists of flexible metal blades overmoulded with high-performance elastomer, secured by an Oysterlock safety clasp with the Glidelock extension system.

The 126655 holds relevance for collectors seeking a Rolex sports watch that balances functionality with a distinct luxury appeal. Its combination of Everose gold, matte black elements, and the Oysterflex bracelet provides a unique aesthetic and wearing experience, setting it apart from other gold sports watches in the Rolex catalog. The inclusion of the Glidelock system on the Oysterflex further enhances its practical wearability.

.... I prefer the full mechanical watch (and actually having a engineering degree in electronics ) But I have to add, that the quartz watches made by Rolex are growing on me. They are so well build and the quartz caliber so well designed and constructed that I will one day get one for myself Best Hans
