Two old chronograph that I wanted to try since a long time. I like these old chronos of Rolex preceeding the daytona, if the Daytona big red is "perfect" imho, these old chronos are playing a much more charming game. Certainly the Rolex I appreciate the most with an old Gold TOG.

The first is 4537 I think, the dial has patina, like an old "parchemin". If it can look odd in photos, it's not bad at all on the wrist, the colourful scale gives it a real charm.  I have a doubt on the crown which I suppose is not the right one.

The second one is a 6034 similar but the dial is this time silver, I  got a crush on that one

It couldn't be well positionned on the wrist because I couldn't tight the bracelet, still gives you on idea on a small wrist. This time the crown looks right imho.

These old chrono case are really nice, very curvy, caseback is round, glass is round, sooo charming. They are also important because they are the first chronos to use the actual "oyster case" that will be used (I suppose ref 4500 can be considered as the first and 4537 the first tricompax, something  in that idea). The photos could make them look thick, this is absolutely not the case, nothing comparable with the moderne Rolex which are way thicker than that. And for info they are around 36mm.

A last Rolex, this more recent Datejust... nothing is more common than a datejust...  but an Omani in White Gold (the case not only the bezel) with flat bezel, I think you won't see a lot around. A true beauty, the case is in great shape and the dial is awesome. Perfect understated watch.

As far as I hate to associate "rare" with Rolex these one are uncommon to say the least (seriously how many Rolex on the market are qualified as "rare" and can be counted in thousands it's silly...) . And the DJ can be truly qualified as rare in that configuration smile

About the Rolex Pre Daytona Ref. 6034

The Rolex Ref. 6034 is a vintage chronograph model that predates the iconic Daytona series, representing an important phase in Rolex's development of complicated watches. These early chronographs are characterized by their more understated design compared to later sports models, often featuring elegant dials and case profiles that appeal to collectors of classic timepieces. The Ref. 6034, along with other pre-Daytona chronographs, showcases Rolex's early commitment to precision timing instruments before the brand's focus shifted towards more specialized tool watches.

This reference typically features a 36mm Oyster case, marking it as one of the first chronographs to incorporate the water-resistant Oyster case design. It houses a manual-wind chronograph movement, often a Valjoux-based caliber, known for its reliability and robust construction. Dials vary, with some exhibiting multi-scale layouts and distinctive patinas that develop over decades, adding to their unique character. The casebacks are notably rounded, contributing to the overall vintage aesthetic.

For collectors, the Ref. 6034 holds significance as a precursor to the Daytona, offering a glimpse into Rolex's chronograph heritage. Its relatively smaller size and classic design make it a versatile piece, while its rarity and historical context contribute to its desirability. These models are appreciated for their charming proportions, intricate dial details, and the tangible connection they provide to Rolex's early chronograph manufacturing.

... old Rolex chronos, preceding the Daytona, have a very special charm of their own! I love their looks, the size, the plain bezel with no inscriptions, the internal scales, some times in red or blue, and this special vintage look they get with their patina, and overall design. I also love the "antique" look of their non end links bracelet! They should be so enjoyable to own and wear!! Thank you so much for sharing your beauties. These are superb pieces indeed!! Enjoy them in good health! Very
