In this 2015 SIHH report, author 219 (Andrew H) highlights Richard Mille's unexpected turn towards traditional complications and feminine designs, contrasting with the brand's usual focus on cutting-edge materials and sports ambassadors. He details several new releases, including the RM019-02 Fleur, new Bubba Watson and Yohan Blake editions, and the introduction of metal bracelets.
Richard Mille RM038 Tourbillon Bubba Watson G-Sensor
The RM038 represents Richard Mille's integration of tourbillon complications with G-sensor technology, positioned within the brand's technical sports watch category. This reference combines the visual drama of skeletonized dial architecture with mechanical complexity, distinguishing it from conventional tourbillon offerings through its sensor functionality.
The 40mm titanium case houses the manual-winding RM038 caliber, providing 70 hours of power reserve. Sapphire crystal protects the skeletonized dial, while the titanium construction ensures durability with 50-meter water resistance. The watch is completed with a rubber strap, emphasizing its technical sports orientation over dress watch applications.
Produced from 2013 to 2018, the RM038 appeals to collectors seeking contemporary mechanical complexity combined with modern materials technology. The five-year production window creates defined scarcity parameters, while the tourbillon and G-sensor combination targets enthusiasts of horological innovation. The skeletonized dial treatment provides visual access to the mechanical elements, satisfying collectors who prioritize movement visibility.
The RM019-02 Fleur was the main watch and complication offered by Richard Mille at SIHH2015. Without doubt, although the case design is definitively Richard Mille and belongs in the twenty-first century, the mechanism and the representation of the complication has more of a connection to the eighteenth century. At a time when the lines between natural sciences, or physics (from the Greek: physis or nature), and horology were blurred and labelled under the same heading as science. Science was see
The second of the complex women’s watches offered this year was simply stunning! In line with some of the complicated women’s watches of the past from Richard: for example the RM019-01, this time, the lattice work dial is covered in a total of 270 diamonds. The movement can be seen through the lattice work if you peer close enough, and the hands to the see the time are just visible above it. The base plate as before is onyx. Onyx is not an easy material to cut a baseplate from. However, this is
A new version of Richard’s golf watch for the American golfer: Bubba Watson. I liked the RM038 for its bridge design and the ‘lightness’ in construction and finish. This time the g-force meter is added into the mix. The same bridge design is there but now on top of the winding barrel there is the g-force meter. I can see some sense to this: Bubba hits the ball harder and further than anyone else on the professional tour so seeing how many g-forces that inflicts on the mechanism would be a useful
Another TZP ceramic bezel watch, this time in all black. Definitely playing to the market, where black watches are definitely ‘in’. Similar in style and tone to the limited edition all black RM055 which sold out in near record time recently, the RM061-01 has the asymmetric shape, the crown guards, and the vulcanized rubber strap. The same manual wound skeletonized movement can be found inside. Once again, there are only a 100 pieces in the series, and I am sure the same feeding frenzy will be fo
This has been a long time coming! But as always, Richard wanted it to be just right before launching it. Not one for doing anything by half, Richard tried a number of variations before settling on this. For anyone who can remember the collaborative projects with Philippe Stark in the mid-noughties, the second watch (in 2007) from the collaboration (a solid construction RM011 on bracelet) looks very familiar when compared to the Richard Mille watch and bracelet offered at SIHH. So the design has
This bracelet works with both the RM007 and RM037 watches. It reminded me of the name bracelets that French men and women used to wear, and still wear for that matter. Once again, comfortable, or so I am told! Also complex and comes in a variety of finishes.
