Christianch, a seasoned collector with a history of owning Ressence timepieces, provides an insightful review of the Ressence Type 3 BB2. His article delves into the subtle yet significant design refinements that distinguish this model from its predecessors, offering a valuable perspective for both new enthusiasts and long-time admirers of the brand's innovative approach to time display. Christianch's detailed observations and personal experience highlight why Ressence continues to captivate the independent watchmaking community.
Dear All,
It has been a while since I thought about Ressence. I owned a Type 3 White back in 2023: www.watchprosite.com
And also a Type 1 Squared in 2018: www.watchprosite.com
Both watches are now gone but certainly not forgotten. So when Ressence released the Type 3 BB2 in 2024, I thought this could be an even nicer model than the white. The changes on the BB2 are subtle but meaningful:
But enough talking โ I'm happy to share my joy with you through some unboxing and wrist shots...

I have many amazing watches in my collection, but nothing is quite like a Ressence. The way it displays time is truly unique โ totally discreet, yet if you know, you know.
The only possible downsides? The black version is much more of a fingerprint magnet than the white or eucalyptus green. And perhaps at this price point they could have included a second strap in leather... but they didn't. Still, I'm super happy with my choice and enjoying it immensely!
Thanks for watching,
Christian
Ressence's Type 3 series represents the Belgian brand's most technically ambitious chapter since Benoรฎt Mintiens founded the company in 2010. Building upon the original Type 1's oil-filled display concept, the Type 3 introduced a revolutionary bi-axial complication that eliminates traditional hands entirely. The BB2 variant, launched as part of the brand's ongoing exploration of fluid timekeeping, demonstrates Ressence's commitment to redefining how we perceive horological display through its proprietary Orbital Convex System.
The technical foundation rests on a modified ETA 2824/2 base movement driving Ressence's patented display system, where time indication occurs through rotating discs submerged in oil. This fluid medium creates an optical effect that makes the dial appear to merge seamlessly with the sapphire crystal. The 44mm titanium case houses this complex mechanism while maintaining the brand's signature crown-free aesthetic, with all adjustments made via the caseback lever system. The oil-filled upper chamber operates independently from the mechanical movement below, connected through a magnetic coupling system.
Within the contemporary independent watchmaking landscape, the Type 3 BB2 occupies a distinctive position as both technical showcase and design statement. Production numbers remain deliberately limited, reinforcing Ressence's boutique status among collectors who prioritize conceptual innovation over traditional complications. The model appeals particularly to enthusiasts seeking alternatives to conventional Swiss haute horlogerie, with secondary market values reflecting the brand's growing recognition in the independent sector.
I had the chance to play with a few of them recently and love how they look in-person. Truly different.
It's as original as they get. Thanks for the high quality photos! Cheers, Filip
as I did owned the white I knew what to expect ๐ I think the black is much cooler !
Time setting is like watching a ballet, elegance and fluidity bong together. Another amazing watch ๐
really love how simple and understated it is ..๐
