REC P-51

This Kickstarter project started with 2 childhoods friends in Copenhagen, Denmark. Jonathan Kamstrup & Christian Mygh.

They love cars and they want to make a watch with parts from a car and at the same time they recycling a few Mustang's that was going to rebuilds.

They choose to work with parts from early Ford Mustang's like those made in 1964-66.

So finally after a long time waiting the FedEx guy hammering at my door.

Maybe the packaging could have been better but I was lucky (a few others was not) only the white box have been beaten up a bit.

The nice watchbox was undamaged and I love the extra green strap they send with the watch, it's close to nubuck.

Inside the metal can/box did I find what I was looking for.

A great box the protect the watch and the documentation and a polishing cloth.

Warranty card and owners manual.

Inside the manual so is there a plastic card with a link to a video with the story of just the car that have donate my dial. I come back to this at the end of this page.

The front of the watch is inspired of the meters inside the car.

So maybe it's time to see how the watch looks? I love the blue hands against the white dial but I don't understand the reversed power reserve meter. Maybe it was not possible to get the needle work reversed.

A closer look at the VIN code plate and the metal from the car.

There are more things that can be recognized.

The crown should have been centered and looks like the gas cap IMHO. But I guess the movement don't allow that to be made.

The screw down crown is very easy to use and feels very comfortable.

At the backside we find the hub cap.

At the Miyota 9130 movement, 28800 bph, 26 jewels with 40 hours power reserve and Geneva stripes.

It's very easy to change strap with the quick change springbars.

The case is 44 x 44 mm, 38 mm dial, 13,65 mm thick and the strap is 24 mm to 20 mm. The lugs should be a little bigger to get better proportions. The straps is nice but little stiff at the moment.

At the backside of the story board card there is both NFC and QR code to see the movie about the history of donor car.

So at the end I'm happy with the watch and the quality/finish is very good. I like the creators rethinking because we see too much copycats today.

The license plate frame is from La Jolla, near me. The front plate is actually a rear California license plate. An interesting concept - but I\'m not sure how the Mustang body panels are converted into the watch dials. Did they melt them down, or punch out the dials from the fenders? Cheers, Cazalea

I wasn't sure if I was going to like it despite Mustangs being my favorite classic cars, but I genuinely do . Very good effort on the manufacturer's part I think. Have a great time wearing it! Cheers, Filip

I have a few of these Kickstarter's watches and I found them in terms of packaging, much better than branded watches, though they use Japanese or China made movements, their overall design stood out and most important, rather affordable.
