MTF explores the enduring connection between Piaget and the rose, a symbol deeply intertwined with the brand's heritage since the "Yves Piaget" rose won international acclaim in 1982. This article delves into how this floral motif, alongside Piaget's mastery of ultra-thin movements, has shaped their exquisite 'secret watches' and jewelry timepieces. MTF highlights Piaget's historical role as a movement supplier and their evolution into showcasing their own horological artistry.

Our lady-moderator, Daos,  reported on a Swiss rose that she spotted whilst vacationing  in Oregon USA; click following link to get to the report: piaget.watchprosite.com

In 1982,  the winning rose at the Concours International de Roses Nouvelle de Genève (Geneva International Competition of New Roses) was christened the “Yves Piaget” rose.  Subsequently, the pale pink Neyron-hue peony-like rose, with more than 80 lace petals, won another  three prestigious prizes - DiplĂ´me de MĂ©daille d’Or, Prix de la Ville de Genève, Coupe du Parfum-Rose d’Or.

Yves G. Piaget was the Chairman of the House of PIAGET and the rose was named for him by the hybridist as a personal honour.

Today, the Rose is still an important element of the Piaget story and is carried further into another Piaget strength -- the world of Secret Watches.

Since 1874, Maison Piaget has been either making the watch movements for most of the famous haute horlogerie houses or assembling the watches for other brand names to be appended. Maybe it was their expertise with ultra-thin movements or some obsession with miniaturisation but Piaget became known for their 'coin' watches or 'secret' watches. Their movements were small and thin enough to fit into hollowed-out gold coins (USA $20) and secret timepieces were incorporated into ostensibly normal jewellery.

Here are a few of the current Rose theme or Secret watches from Maison Piaget.

In some cases, both thema are used for the same piece.......a Rose by any other name, would smell as sweet.

Still the penny did not drop and I continued in ignorance, even when looking at real roses next to the Piaget rose-theme products in Geneva. Then, this last Piaget lunch date ini Singapore showcased their rose and secret thema in watches........ta-daah! I fin

There must be many more secrets at Piaget

FrX, Indeed, there are many secrets at Piaget that we need to dig out. Originally, it was the reticence of the Calvinists.....pride is a sin. But then, when the re-animation of interest in mechanical horology in the late 1990s resulted in more brands showing off their movements. Finally, Piaget started to also show their art. This is what they used to hide behind a solid caseback. It is a logical step to reveal the other Piaget secrets. The recent global economic crises have focused our minds on
