This burgundy dial variant of the regular Patek Philippe Weekly Calendar Calatrava was made in 2024 to celebrate 50 years of partnership with Austria-based Juwelier Heldwein.

The ref. number is 5212A-010 as opposed to the 5212A-001 of the regular version.

The sapphire case back says β€œPatek Philippe & Juwelier Heldwein – 1974-2024 – 50 years of collaboration”, but I have been unable to find some photos of it.

Only 20 pieces were made.

Do you like it?

Best, Emmanuel

About the Patek Philippe Weekly Calendar Ref. 5212A-001

The Calatrava reference 5212A-001 introduced the Weekly Calendar complication to the Patek Philippe lineup. This model features a unique hand-written style typography for its calendar indications, distinguishing it from other calendar watches in the brand's collection. It represents an accessible entry point into Patek Philippe's complicated timepieces, offering a practical function in a non-precious metal case.

The watch is housed in a 40mm steel case, a notable choice for a Patek Philippe complication, and is fitted with a sapphire crystal. It is powered by the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C J SE, which provides a power reserve of approximately 35-45 hours. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal case back, allowing appreciation of its finishing.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a distinctive and functional complication from Patek Philippe outside of the traditional annual or perpetual calendars. Its steel case and unique dial layout offer a different aesthetic compared to the more formal Calatrava models, making it a versatile option within the brand's contemporary offerings. The 5212A-001 is a regular production model, contrasted by limited editions such as the 5212A-010.

I really like the color scheme…

But the laziness of not changing the date wheel a tad less so. But then again it’s not color matched to the dial on the original, either πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Yes, but it's less noticeable on the original!

It's surprising that Heldwein didn't ask for such a refinement for such an anniversary piece (a 50th anniversary only comes every 50 years, doesn't it πŸ˜…)! Best, Emmanuel

It never ceases to amaze me when these lazy cheapskates make a limited edition...

With a new color dial and keep the date wheel from the non-limited version. I mean how hard is it to make 20 matching date wheels when you make 20 bespoke dials? For this reason alone, I would not consider buying such a limited edition watch.

I completely understand your reaction.

I forgot to mention that regardless of the date wheel mismatch I don't find this watch remotely attractive.

The standard series white dial is far nicer to me.
