And looking better than ever. My first service since I bought this 3941J a few years ago. After the team at Henri Stern in NY felt it was needed I swallowed hard, trusted them, and bore the separation. Now I’m glad I did; thanks PP for all the kind attention!

About the Patek Philippe Grand Complications Ref. 3941

The Patek Philippe Grand Complications reference 3941 is a perpetual calendar wristwatch, distinguished from its closely related successor, the 3940, by its solid case back. This reference represents a transitional period for Patek Philippe's perpetual calendars, offering a more understated aesthetic compared to later models while retaining the brand's high-complication pedigree. It was produced in limited quantities, making it a notable piece for collectors interested in the evolution of Patek Philippe's perpetual calendar lineage. The 3941 was offered in various precious metals, with the 'J' suffix indicating a yellow gold case.

This reference features a self-winding mechanical movement, the Caliber 240 Q, known for its slim profile and integrated perpetual calendar mechanism. The case diameter is 36 mm, a classic size for dress watches of its era, contributing to its comfortable wearability. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, providing clear visibility of the dial and protecting the intricate perpetual calendar display, which typically includes day, date, month, leap year cycle, and moon phases.

For collectors, the 3941 holds significance as a less common variant of Patek Philippe's perpetual calendar offerings. Its solid case back appeals to those who prefer a traditional and discreet presentation, focusing on the dial-side complications. The reference's production run and the subtle differences from the more prevalent 3940 make it a specific target for enthusiasts seeking a distinct piece within the Grand Complications family, particularly in its original precious metal configurations.

Really very little difference.

When the 3940 was introduced in 1986, some customers wanted to have a display case. At that time, Patek did not offer a choice with a 3940, so they came up with a new reference number, 3941, to apply to all and only those 3940β€˜s which had a display back. This move proved popular and four years later, the 3940 was offered with both a solid and display case, and so the 3941 reference number was retired. I read there are only about 35 or so 3941β€˜s that were made. It’s a rarity β€” I think some collec

Interesting tidbit! I was looking around and found this one at Windvintage: and this one at Philips: www.phillips.com 25. Do you know why this one doesn't have the same subdial on the right side (I prefer yours)? So only a couple dozen were made and they also have different dials?

Changes to the sundials occurred as the series evolved

The inclusion of the quadrant lines, as well as rotating the leap year numbers, were modifications made to the 3940 (and the 3941), after the first series. This didn’t last long with the 3941, because during the second series it was discontinued.
