Emmanuel, known as quattro on WatchProSite, brings to light the often-overlooked Patek Philippe reference 3842. His detailed presentation, featuring numerous examples across different metals and dial configurations, challenges the perception of this timepiece as 'boring' or 'too feminine.' This article explores why quattro believes the 3842, particularly the platinum variant with Breguet numerals, deserves a second look from collectors.

The Patek Philippe reference 3842 is largely overlooked. Yet I find it very beautiful, even gorgeous, especially the first example below.

The case measures 28 x 36 mm.

Do you like it too?

Best, Emmanuel

A/ PLATINUM

1/ Breguet numerals & hands

According to A.F.W. in a post from 2008, the small screw's function on the back cover isn't to secure it. When it is removed one can see another screwhead inside, very small, which is used to free the stem and crown from the case. Once the caseback is opened one can remove the movement. It cannot be removed from the case cover without removing the stem and crown first.

2/ Diamond indexes & needle hands

The watch is powered by manual wind caliber 177.

Same for me!

I don’t always love Breguet hands and numerals but here they look perfect.

The numerals and hands are winners, in my book, here.

And, for whatever reason, platinum seems to be the perfect metal here.

I love the 3842 but

it is really challenging to wind this manual winding watch due to the position of the crown.
