mstanga, a respected Patek Philippe collector, delves into a subtle yet significant detail within the Nautilus ref. 5712: the evolution of its power reserve indicator. His meticulous observation highlights how even seemingly minor changes can distinguish different production eras of a highly sought-after reference, offering invaluable insights for collectors and enthusiasts tracking Patek Philippe's continuous refinements.

And finally here we are, when everything seemed to be known, that even the 5712 has got its issue. Let's point our attention to the power reserve sector. The very first 5712s starting from 2006 until about 2008 have only 1 white dot, the later 5712s starting from about 2008 and movement serial number (about) 3176000 have two little white dots and this continue until nowadays and this is true in every metal. smile Please tell me the truth, did you know it?

About the Patek Philippe 5712 Ref. 5712

The Patek Philippe Complications Reference 5712 is a notable offering within the brand's Complications collection, distinguished by its asymmetrical dial layout and a suite of practical indications. It presents a sophisticated blend of functionality and design, offering a moon phase, power reserve indicator, and an analog date display, all arranged to create a distinctive visual identity that sets it apart from more traditional Patek Philippe designs.

This particular reference features a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter, housing the self-winding caliber 240 PS IRM C LU. This movement is known for its slim profile, achieved through the integration of a micro-rotor, contributing to the watch's comfortable wearability. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers a water resistance of 60 meters, with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

For collectors, the 5712 represents an accessible entry into Patek Philippe's complicated timepieces, offering a range of functions without the complexity of a perpetual calendar or chronograph. Its stainless steel construction and integrated bracelet provide a robust and versatile option, appealing to those seeking a daily wearable complicated watch. The reference has been in production since 2006, with the 5712/1A denoting the stainless steel bracelet variant.

I don't know the significance but I prefer one dot as oppose the two dots. Best Regards Edward

When me and 2 of my best watch buddies owned 5712/1A at the same time we compared them side by side and there are differences, as what you've mentioned here. If I'm not mistaken that time was a 2006 , 2010 and 2013 piece. A have slight difference in dial color. And there was a small difference in moonphase finish, one being polished and other being matte. I still need to find the photo I took before, let's see if I can find it Thanks again for such a great reference point post Marco! Sam

Thank you for another interesting post about subtle differences within the same reference! It’s fascinating how these small changes go in over time. Not a nautilus, but other references also has these small differences. Below is my 5127 with 57 dots around the dial on the left, but newer runs of the 5127 has 60 dots around the dial (note there are 3 more on the date window). The newer 5127’s also use the 324 movement, as opposed to the the old ones that has the 315 movement. I wonder if there ar

which I like best. The 315 model seems smaller to me overall, also.
