GT3's 2016 post invites the WatchProSite community to share their favorite Patek Philippe Nautilus references, following the recent releases of the 5990A and 5711R. This article captures the vibrant discussion among collectors, exploring preferences across various Nautilus models, from the classic 5711A to more complicated references, and delves into the personal reasons behind each choice.
The Patek Philippe Reference 5726 represents a significant milestone in the manufacture s annual calendar collection, combining the practical sophistication of an annual calendar with a sleek nautical aesthetic. Introduced as part of Patek Philippe s modern sports-elegant lineup, this reference demonstrates the brand s mastery in creating complicated timepieces that maintain everyday wearability. The 5726 builds upon Patek Philippe s rich heritage of calendar complications, offering collectors a contemporary interpretation of haute horlogerie that bridges the gap between dressy complications and contemporary sports watches.
At the heart of the Reference 5726 beats the exceptional Caliber 324 S QA LU 24H/303, an automatic movement that showcases Patek Philippe s technical prowess in calendar mechanisms. This sophisticated caliber features an annual calendar complication that automatically adjusts for months with 30 and 31 days, requiring manual correction only once per year at the end of February. The movement incorporates a 24-hour indication alongside the traditional calendar functions, displaying day, date, month, and moon phases through elegantly arranged subsidiary dials. The self-winding mechanism ensures consistent power delivery while maintaining the thin profile necessary for the watch s refined proportions.
The 40.5mm stainless steel case presents a contemporary interpretation of classic Patek Philippe design language, featuring clean lines and perfectly executed finishing that exemplifies the manufacture s attention to detail. The striking blue sunburst dial creates remarkable depth and luminosity, with its rich color serving as the foundation for the symmetrically arranged calendar displays. Protected by a sapphire crystal and featuring a fixed smooth bezel, the 5726 balances functionality with aesthetic refinement. For collectors, this reference represents an accessible entry point into Patek Philippe s complicated watch segment while offering the prestige and technical excellence associated with one of horology s most revered manufacturers. The combination of stainless steel construction, practical complications, and distinctive design elements positions the 5726 as a highly desirable piece for both seasoned collectors and those building their first serious watch collection.
For me the relatively easy answer is: 5711/1a in blue dial, even with that date window and the 324SC. The P is glorious; but for me, the essence of this watch is the evolved original. (The white dial model isn\'t as attractive to me.) I haven\'t seen the 5711 in rose gold but while I\'m not much of a gold wearer, the pictures Fx recently posted did have me drooling just a little bit! I have great admiration, too, for the 3712/5712, in steel and gold, bracelet and strap, and sometimes I waver bet
if we can choice among the total production ideally my favorite is the 3700, 2nd the 3712 and 3rd 5712. practically the 5712 ranks 1st
The simpler one but maybe th emost elegant as well. If you like the 5711/1R, I have made a review recently and it is indeed a very appealing watch for the whole gold material in terms of look and feeling: www.watchprosite.com Cheers, Mark
Maybe I am biased as I love the Nautilus line-up but, when it comes to these watches, I noticed that people would be very tempted to have more than one. So do I. By the way, the 5711/1R is from this year (I made a review here: www.watchprosite.com but the 5990/1A was presented the year before, in 2014 (I talked about the complication with a few pictures here: www.watchprosite.com ). When it comes to Nautiluses, my main criterion is the thinness, thus I lean toward the 5711 and 57
I like and own 5711/1a (white) 5712/1a 5712r 5980/1a (white) and 5980/1r Out of my own little "collection" I love the 5980/1r the most. I do not wear them much for the pass 6 months or so which is a shame on me. My current favorite Patek Philippe daily beater, the 5235g on a gray color nato nylon strap or sometime with custom purple leather strap. Cheers! .. Best regards, James
as my first Patek due to it's "hard to get", long waiting list etc reasons....but then after I tried it on, I think it's a little too thin while the 5980 is too thick for me. Therefore, I went with the 5726, a good balance in between, with a nice annual calendar function. Honestly, I don't really hope to get the 5711 forever, hope that's not going to pass down, if you know what I mean. I have other time only watches and many chronos, but no annual calendar or perpertual so that was also why I ma
