YZ's acquisition of a Patek Philippe Ref. 5905A with a Tiffany stamp marks a significant transition for the collector, moving from a Rolex-centric collection into the rarefied air of haute horlogerie. His initial impressions offer a compelling, direct comparison of quality and wearability between two titans of watchmaking, providing invaluable insights for collectors considering a similar journey into Patek Philippe's complicated offerings.

I recently got this 5905A with a Tiffany stamp, my first Patek.  Coming from a collection of a few steel Rolexes, I am extremely impressed with the step up in quality between the two brands.  Everything feels much smoother and refined—even the edges of the case and bracelet.   As someone who cares about collecting complications, I am looking forward to expanding into the beautiful offerings Patek has as I grow my collection.  Next to my Yacht-Master II, Submariner, and Milgauss, the 5905 looks like wildly different, but in a welcoming way.

About the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5905

Patek Philippe Reference 5905 Annual Calendar Chronograph

The Reference 5905 represents Patek Philippe's integration of annual calendar and flyback chronograph complications within their contemporary collection. This model combines the practical annual calendar function with chronograph timing capabilities, positioning it among the manufacturer's multi-complication offerings produced from 2015 to present.

The 42mm case is constructed in 18k white gold with polished bezel treatment and sapphire crystal protection. The automatic Caliber CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H provides the timekeeping and complication functions, delivering 45-55 hours of power reserve. The black dial is fitted to a leather strap, with water resistance rated to 30 meters.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking Patek Philippe's combination of calendar and chronograph functions in a larger case format. The 42mm sizing and white gold construction distinguish it within the annual calendar range, while the flyback chronograph capability adds operational versatility for timing applications.

5905 steel with Tiffany stamp is a wonderful entry into the world of Patek ! How does it feel on the wrist and how do you like the pushers ? Please write a review after wearing it for a while.

Thanks so much!

It feels sublime on the wrist—wears smaller than a 42 should, IMO, and the bracelet is quite comfortable. I was expecting the bracelet to be the low point of the watch as Rolex tends to be considered the “king” in that regard but I actually find the Patek bracelet far more conforming to the curves of my wrist. The pushers are nice IMO, I tend to prefer that shape versus the more vintage cylindrical pushers—it works better with this style which is a bit “sporty.”

Rolex is not

Even in the same zip code as far as craftsmanship. You’ve got a great watch there! Enjoy it and welcome to the holy trinity.
