Baron - Mr Red initiates a compelling discussion on the enduring appeal of Patek Philippe's Calatrava collection, juxtaposed against the brand's celebrated complications. He invites collectors to reflect on how these distinct lines, both modern and vintage, contribute to Patek Philippe's unique identity and whether the classic Calatrava still holds a special allure for those who appreciate more complex timepieces.

I see a lot of modern complications on this forum. I can't think of another forum that has so many great Patek Philippe watches on show literally every day as WatchProsSite. On this forum, the 5131 is almost a community watch!! Yet, a lot of people responded on seeing that vintage Calatrava from Keks. Keks has a range of beautiful watches, but that vintage Calatrava hit a certain note for him.

I think it is fair to say that within Patek Philippe, the juxtaposition of Calatrava and Complication is almost unique to Patek Philippe relative to any other manufacturer. Recently I had the pleasure of chatting with a couple of the Directors at Patek Philippe and they asked me what my favourite vintage pieces were. When i mentioned what I had, they both remarked how the Calatrava collection was so inherent to the brand. Clearly, I don't need to ask Keks what he thinks (though feel free to chime in!), but i wondered how many collectors of complicated watches within Patek Philippe (modern or vintage) also felt a real allure from the Calatrava range?

And generally, how many people tempted to add a Calatrava?

About the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 570

The Patek Philippe reference 570 is a classic Calatrava-style dress watch, representing a significant period in the brand's production of time-only pieces. It is distinguished by its clean lines and minimalist aesthetic, embodying the traditional design principles that Patek Philippe is known for in its non-complicated watches. The reference 570 was offered in various metals and dial configurations, making each example unique within the broader series of Patek Philippe's round cased watches from the mid-20th century.

This particular example features an 18k white gold case with a diameter of 38mm. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal, protecting a silver dial. The watch is powered by a manual wind movement, reflecting the common practice for high-end dress watches of its era. The water resistance is rated at 30 meters, typical for a watch of this type and period.

The reference 570 appeals to collectors seeking a pure expression of Patek Philippe's watchmaking heritage, particularly those interested in the brand's foundational dress watch designs. Its various iterations, including different case materials and dial finishes, offer a range of options for discerning collectors. The enduring appeal of the 570 lies in its understated elegance and its representation of a specific era of Patek Philippe's design philosophy.

even though both the 565 and 570 were in 35mm and produced from the late 30s, the 565 was produced predominantly in stainless steel while the 570 in gold. Give me a vintage Patek in steel anytime over a gold one. I have a 1530A and and have made it my daily watch Something like this would be nice
