About the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 2429

The Patek Philippe Calatrava Reference 2429, introduced in the 1950s, represents a period of design evolution within the Calatrava line. It distinguishes itself from more common Calatrava references through its specific case architecture, offering a unique aesthetic that appeals to collectors seeking variations beyond the standard round case and straight lugs.

This reference typically features a manual-winding movement, often the Caliber 10-200, known for its reliability and slim profile. The case, frequently executed in yellow gold, is characterized by its prominent double lugs, which extend the visual presence of the watch on the wrist. Dial configurations are generally minimalist, featuring applied hour markers and dauphine hands, often with a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o'clock.

For collectors, the Reference 2429 offers an opportunity to acquire a Patek Philippe Calatrava with a less common and more sculptural case design. Its production period was relatively brief, contributing to its scarcity in the market. The reference provides insight into the diverse design language employed by Patek Philippe during the mid-20th century, making it a point of interest for those appreciating historical variations.

lugs are very interesting ! What size is the watch and how does it wear ? The lugs make it look bigger.

Yes I agree the long lugs make the piece wear 'big'. Similarly I have experience with a Patek 96 which is quoted 30.8mm and, standing on long lugs, wears much 'bigger'. The 96's relatively large crown (of the 12'200 movement) also helps.
