As a contrast and complement to my thread dedicated to the new Calatrava 6196P, here's an incredible variant of the ref. 2451, with a steel 31 mm case made by Francois Borgel (FB) and a dial with radium dots and radium-filled leaf hands.

The watch is powered by manual caliber 10-200 (launched in 1946, 10 lines, 18 jewels, 19,800 vph).

A vintage dream? My personal answer is 'yes'!

Best to you all,
Emmanuel

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 2451

The Patek Philippe Reference 2451 is a notable example of a mid-century Calatrava, distinguished by its relatively compact dimensions and classic round case profile. It represents a period when Patek Philippe produced a variety of case designs, often in collaboration with external manufacturers, offering collectors diverse options within the Calatrava lineage. The reference is recognized for its understated aesthetic, aligning with the traditional dress watch philosophy.

This particular variant features a 31 mm steel case, manufactured by Francois Borgel (FB), a known case maker for Patek Philippe during this era. The dial is characterized by radium dots and radium-filled leaf hands, a detail that places it within a specific production window. Powering the watch is the manual-winding caliber 10-200, which operates at 19,800 vibrations per hour and contains 18 jewels. The crystal type is typically acrylic for watches of this period.

Reference 2451 appeals to collectors interested in vintage Patek Philippe Calatravas, particularly those seeking examples with specific historical case manufacturers or dial configurations. The presence of a steel case, rather than more common precious metals, adds a layer of rarity and distinctiveness for some enthusiasts. Its design reflects the prevailing tastes of the post-war era, making it a representative piece for collectors focused on the brand's evolution.

Surprising a 31mm Patek have that big presence. My 39mm BM Clifton is in, and now it feels very oversized 😎
