In this insightful post, pv45 shares his firsthand impressions of recent Patek Philippe releases, offering a unique perspective that often differs from official press imagery. His detailed observations on the Patek Philippe 5204R, 5905/1A, and 5930P provide invaluable context for collectors considering these significant references. pv45's ability to capture the true essence of these timepieces in person highlights the importance of experiencing luxury watches beyond digital representations.
…and great to finally see such watches for real. Some quick snapshots of recent releases:
The 5204R was my favourite by far, a bit thick, but the dial is stunning. The grey and rose gold is a real eye-catching combination. Seeing it in the flesh was a revelation since the press photos didn’t really make any impact on me:

Next up: The 5905/1A, chunky and sporty no doubt! The olive green dial is subtle and ‘washed-out’:

Patek Philippe Reference 5204 Split-Seconds Chronograph Perpetual Calendar
The Reference 5204 combines split-seconds chronograph functionality with perpetual calendar complications in a 40mm case format. This reference represents Patek Philippe's approach to integrating dual chronograph timing capabilities with complete calendar functions, positioning it as a grand complication within the manufacture's lineup.
The 40mm case is available in 18k white gold or rose gold with polished bezel treatment and sapphire crystal. The manual-winding Caliber R CH 27 PS QI provides 48 hours of power reserve. Dial options include silvery-gray or silvery-opaline finishes, paired with alligator leather straps. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters.
Produced from 2012 to 2019, the 5204 appeals to collectors seeking complications beyond standard chronographs or simple perpetual calendars. The split-seconds function adds timing versatility while maintaining the traditional manual-winding operation characteristic of high-end chronograph manufacture. The reference serves collectors prioritizing mechanical complexity and dual precious metal case options.
My AD doesn’t even have any pictures, let alone real watches. Lol 😂
The 5930P is really something, and do admire the emerald glow of the 5930P. Many thanks for sharing these spectacular shots!!!
The 5905 had the longest wait unsurprisingly!
it makes it easier I don't buy on waitlist unless I am really really in love
green with envy ! Which piece(s) did you order ?
Just wonder why they decided to invert the moonphase? The old pieces out my budget so I was quite happy to add the 3940j recently.. If I could go back, I’d pick up a 5970g while I could or possibly a 5370P in black!
