GLau provides an exclusive account of the Patek Philippe Beijing Maison opening ceremony, detailing the tasteful decor and unique atmosphere. He highlights the presence of Philippe and Thierry Stern, and introduces the limited edition Ref. 5153 watches created for the occasion. GLau's report offers a rare glimpse into a significant event for Patek Philippe in the Chinese market.
Dear All,
On May 26th, I was fortunately enough to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Maison and had a wonderful evening. The weather was perfect for the event as the sky was clear with no pollution!! The Beijing Maison is tastefully done and has a different colour scheme and decoration than the one in Shanghai. Both are worth visiting. FYI, since 2008 (I believe) the Beijing boutique (now upgraded to Maison) has been located in a place called Ch'ien Men 23, the former American Legation.
Mr. and Mrs. Philippe Stern and Thierry Stern were at the event and were friendly with guests. Thierry Stern joked that somebody (i.e. his wife Sandrine) had to work while he and his parents were traveling around the world.
Limited edition of the 5153 are being made (25 in white and 25 in yellow gold) to celebrate this occasion. This reference has a different dial in that Brequet numerals are used as hour markers and the officer case has the Maison building engraved on it.
Below are some photos for your enjoyment.
Cheers,
Gordon

The Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 5153 represents a 38mm manual wind iteration within the Calatrava collection. Distinguished by its white gold construction and black dial configuration, this reference was produced from 2005 to 2012, offering collectors a substantial case size within the dress watch category.
The 38mm case is crafted from 18k white gold and features a smooth bezel with sapphire crystal protection. The manual wind caliber 215 PS movement provides 44 hours of power reserve, while water resistance extends to 30 meters. The black dial is complemented by a leather strap, maintaining the classical proportions expected from this configuration.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a larger Calatrava format in precious metal, with the 38mm case size providing contemporary wrist presence. The manual wind movement and seven-year production span positions the 5153 as a substantial dress watch option within the white gold Calatrava offerings from this period.
I just don't get the cow??? :) Cheers D
...the event was "transformed" into a location in Switzerland where cheese was served along with cows on the grass
I don't get that brand like PP is going for fake cow :) Was it so hard to got real one this looks just ridiculous Best D
I trust you got the 5153 you wanted! Chien Men 23 is certainly the place to be. The Maybach car was even filmed there for the 2010 Beijing Auto Show video. That was when I first became aware of the Patek Philippe boutique within Chien Men 23. Thanks for sharing with us the photos of your event! It's very much appreciated!
it seems I know nothing anymore. One more reason to come back in the (near) future and one I really look forward to. G or J? Both look good on your wrist, but G would fit you even better - in this case. Thanks a lot for sharing! Oliver
for sharing with us here. Wonderful pics you took. Looks like another wonderful event with PP. I have never attended a PP event before and after reading your post would love to attend one at some point in my life! So which 5153 you got? :P cheers robin
