Small-luxury-world provides a crucial first look at Patek Philippe's 2014 Baselworld novelties, offering immediate impressions and live pictures of significant new models. This report highlights key releases such as the Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph Ref. 5990/1A, the updated 5960/1A, and new variations of the 5951P and 5940G. The post serves as an invaluable archive for understanding Patek Philippe's product strategy and design evolution during that period.

new models/variants like Ref. 5960/1A, 5990/1A, 5951P ...

Let´s have a first look on the new Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph in steel, which replaces all former Nautilus chronographs in steel.

Ref 5960/1A

First impression: I like it a lot, for several reasons.

Next one is the successor of all former Ref. 5960´s, the 5960/1A-001

Note: Don´t even think that it is "black & white", it´s not. If you look closer you can see that it is more about "shades of grey".

First impression: I find it interesting and think it could grow on me.

Ref. 5951P is not new, but this time in two new more understated and less sporty versions: 5951P-012 and -013

First impression: I like them a lot.

Ref. 5271P-001 is also a new variation and this time with gem setting.

First impression: I like it for what it is, but it´s not me.

Ref. 5940G-001 is the new brother of the known J version, with some minor changes on the dial.

First impression: I like it a lot, to say the least.

That´s not all, but that´s it for tonight. More to come ...

Oliver

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5960

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5960A, introduced in stainless steel, represents a significant offering within the brand's annual calendar chronograph series. This particular reference is notable for being the first annual calendar chronograph from Patek Philippe to be offered in a non-precious metal, making it a distinctive piece in the Complications collection. It combines practical complications with a robust case material, appealing to collectors seeking a blend of utility and horological complexity.

This reference features a 40.5mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber CH 28-520 QA 24H. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours and is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The dial is presented in white, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The integrated stainless steel bracelet complements the case material, providing a cohesive aesthetic.

The 5960A in stainless steel holds a specific position for collectors due to its material choice and the integrated bracelet, differentiating it from its precious metal counterparts. Its combination of an annual calendar and chronograph functions, along with the 24-hour indication, makes it a highly functional and mechanically interesting timepiece. The special hand set and case back decoration mentioned for this specific 5960A further emphasize its unique attributes within the production run.

And here is why It looks like it has the dial of a 5970 and abandons the mishaps fo the 5270 dials - So it has the tachy like the new dial 5270, but not the "chin" or "bump" at 6 o clock - It also has a different layout for the numbers on the tach (they go around the perimeter instead of being in a straight line outwards) - And there is the inner 0 to 60 makers too This is all very interesting and very reminiscent of the design of the 5970! (and of the 2499!!) Maybe they will introduce a 5270 wi

Oliver, I'm already taken with the 5960/1-A. It solves the problem of wearing the previous 5960s in heat and humidity. As an owner of several variants of this reference, I'm very pleased that the dial is so different from the others. Thank you for the quick photos. Park

I was wrong on my "guess list" (Where did you put my RG 5711 pictures?) I love Nautiluses so I might be biased, but I really like this 5990. The dial remains clear and light in spite of the number of information needed. The hands are thin and the dial is not too much crowded. The only thing that troubles me a bit is the modification of the hinge at 9 to integrate the 2 new pushers. As for the 5960, well... I started the day saying it was strange and that I didn't like it, but finished the beginn

The 5271 is does not only show was a black dial 5270 could be (without the "belly") --- there are other major changes that are more to the DNA of the 2499 and 5970! Patek is telling us all something.

I loved the J which was one of the nicest novelty when it came, this understated version is superb as well. For the rest, not my cup of tea. And that 5960A is really... special... François (controlling his words)
