Emmanuel, known as 'quattro' on WatchProSite, offers an insightful look into Patek Philippe's latest Retrograde Perpetual Calendar, the ref. 6159G-001. His detailed analysis not only showcases the new white gold timepiece with its distinctive gray metallized sapphire crystal dial but also meticulously traces its design lineage within Patek Philippe's esteemed catalog. Emmanuel's work provides crucial context by linking the 6159G-001 to its aesthetic predecessors, making this a vital read for collectors interested in the evolution of Patek Philippe's retrograde perpetual calendars.

Among Patek Philippe's recent releases is the Retrograde Perpetual Calendar ref. 6159G-001 which has a white gold case and a dial in gray metallized sapphire crystal

It's a new addition to Patek Philippe's long line of Retrograde Perpetual Calendars, to which I have previously dedicated three threads: the "simple" ones & the "complicated" ones (part 1 & part 2

Because of its tinted sapphire crystal and of its hobnail pattern enhancing the bezel and caseback, this new reference can be considered as having two "precursors" in the current catalog:
  • The Tourbillon Retrograde Perpetual Calendar Minute Repeater, ref. 5316/50P-001, which has a tinted sapphire crystal
  • The Calatrava ref. 6119G-001, which has a hobnail bezel
The case is 39,5 x 11,39 mm and the watch is powered by automatic caliber 26-330 S QR.

So, let's have a look!

Best, Emmanuel

About the Cartier Calatrava Ref. 6119

The Calatrava reference 6119G-001 represents a contemporary interpretation of a classic dress watch, distinguished by its hobnail bezel. This particular reference, launched in 2021, updates the design language of previous Calatrava models while retaining core aesthetic principles. It is positioned as a refined option for collectors seeking a modern dress watch with traditional finishing.

This reference features a white gold case, measuring 39mm in diameter and 8.43mm in thickness. It houses the manual-wind caliber 30-255 PS, which provides a power reserve of 65 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers water resistance up to 30 meters. The dial is charcoal gray with a subtle grained texture.

Appealing to collectors who appreciate understated design and mechanical precision, the 6119G-001 offers a blend of traditional watchmaking and contemporary sizing. Its hobnail bezel is a signature element, linking it to historical models while presenting a fresh appearance within the current Calatrava collection. so my favorite here would be the Calatrava (but it doesn't fit my wrist very well, so I guess none of the three are for me)!

For me Patek trying to make the movement less small by putting the hobnail ring around it actually makes it accentuated. Plus 40h PR movement on 120k watch seems like poor effort IMO

but I like the case design very much, as well as the dial layout. Best, Emmanuel
