Jeff_M's original post captures a relatable dilemma for many luxury watch collectors: the bittersweet necessity of parting with cherished timepieces for practical reasons. While his Patek Philippe Ref. 5970R and A. Lange & Söhne Datograph reside securely, Jeff_M embarks on an American adventure, relying on a robust IWC Ceratanium. This thread explores the balance between horological passion and the demands of an adventurous lifestyle.

Had to put the 5970R and Dato in the safety deposit box so I could head out on an adventure across America. Just have the IWC Ceratanium with me. 1st world problems! Can’t wait to see her again whenever I get back? Have a good one all.

Have a safe trip, enjoy every moment of it, enjoy your IWC as if it was your only watch and... yes you will surely enjoy your grails a lot upon your return but you will have spent a fantastic holiday and adventure 😉

Can you tell us more? how many miles/days, type of accomodation etc? Organising good rests and food is important too! I already have the hammock/tent to camp, and am planning on buying a Ténéré Rally to go on such an adventure in Europe including some Irish isles some time in 2021

I carry tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, basic cooking gear, etc. Prefer to camp but also hit hotels for a hot shower, meal, and wash my limited clothes. Can’t get too aggressive off-road with all the gear but prefer off-road to paved roads. Having some repairs done on the bike right now in Santa Fe, New Mexico before the push north through Colorado. Good luck on your adventure, go for it

I would envision a very light load, only targeting the most basic cooking, very light tent... and of course as much offroading as possible. Cool project that you are realising
