This provides a relatable narrative for new collectors and an intimate look at Patek Philippe ownership.

Hi to  everyone!

I just joined this forum, after I had been a passive reader for quite some while. Let me allow to give a short introduction about myself and my watches.

I am a Swiss guy living in the suburbs of Basel which I assume you all know for hosting the yearly watch fair. I actually work right next to the exhibition Square, so quite convenient for visits over lunchtime.

I bought my first decent watch when I was 17 (Oris Big crown), and since then regularly added further pieces , usually when hitting important milestones in my life: High School graduation ( IWC Fliegerchrono, 1st Generation), University Graduation (Rolex submariner), Bar Exam ( JLC Master hometime),  birth of my first son (JLC Master chrono RG).

Last year  finally, I felt the time was right for my first Patek and I knew it had to be the 5711. So I went to the local AD and was told that the watch would arrive earliest in 12 months. This was actually perfect timing, since it would just arrive in Spring 2014 for my 40th birthday. But surprise, surprise, it came already after 7 months last November. Of course I was happy and I am enjoying the piece almost daily since then. It has become my True Daily beater. BUT: what now about my birthday present I thought. You can imagine that the answer came at hand quite easily: another Patek, maybe a complicated one. Decision was made fast: the 5146 which I always adored for its classical and sober design. interestingly, I never had any doubts about the model, so I ordered the G version with slate dial which I still find a gorgeous piece. But the day the watch arrived, actually yesterday, coincident has it that they also just had recieved the P version which as I learnt was not reserved yet. So I had the chance to do an in flesh, daylight side to side comparison and suddenly changed my mind: I needed to have the P version. The clean dial, its beautiful ebony sunburst color, the whiteness of the platinum, the feel on the wrist. Just a stunning watch! And

So, thats all to start with, looking forward to many interactions here with all of you.

Cheers,

Daniel

About the Patek Philippe Patek Philippe 5146/1J-001 Ref. 5146

The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Moon Phases reference 5146, introduced in 2005, represents a significant offering in the brand's annual calendar complication lineage. This reference succeeded the popular 5035 and 5036 models, refining the aesthetic and technical presentation of the annual calendar with moon phases. It is characterized by its balanced dial layout, integrating day, date, month, moon phase, and power reserve indications in a legible and harmonious arrangement. The 5146 was produced in various precious metals, establishing itself as a core model within Patek Philippe's complicated watch collection for many years.

This particular iteration of the 5146 is presented in an 18k yellow gold case, measuring 39mm in diameter. It houses the self-winding Patek Philippe Caliber 324 S IRM QA LU, a movement known for its reliability and precision, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for swimming or diving.

The reference 5146 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated daily wearable complication from Patek Philippe. Its annual calendar mechanism requires adjustment only once a year, at the end of February, offering practical convenience. The model was available with several dial variations and case materials throughout its production run, which concluded around 2020. The yellow gold variant with a silvery opaline dial offers a classic and understated presentation, aligning with traditional Patek Philippe aesthetics.

5711 is a wonderful piece for both formal and casual. Very comfortable to wear in summer in particular. I always have been a big fan of platinum watches especially for Patek, most platinum cased Pateks have some special charm…besides the discrete diamond on the 6 o'clock position. Congratulations and enjoy both great pieces.
