I started my journey of appreciating watches through a friend of mine.  He introduced me to the brand, Patek Philippe.  Many people were wearing Rolex and for some reason, I was drawn to "complication" watches.
I bought the annual calendar 5056P in 2005 and have kept it since as my daily wearer together with some other watches (Rolex, JLC).  I was fascinated with the annual calendar! No need to change the dates every month!
Soon I forgot about watches and could not justify getting another watch (as I already had a nice 5056).

One day, I said to myself IT was time to get a more "complicated" watch.  I went to my AD and tried on the 5140 and somehow, It did not "sing" to me so I passed on it.   Yr 2014 and I saw an article about a perpetual calendar I liked.  It's like the 5140 but with leaf hands and lume on it.  I am an Industrial Engineer and like technical things as well so when I saw the word Advanced Research then I got more interested.  Thus the start of my hunt for the Patek 5550P!  I went to my AD and they said its limited to 300.  they could not get me one.  I emailed Patek Singapore and they said all were sold out.  Whenever there are auctions I always look if there is a 5550 (and a Rolex 6263) smile

Fast forward to this year, I was able to read some threads about the 5550 and renewed my "search" for it.  I was still contemplating on it when I decided to ask Kari for his advice as I know he has one.  I read his thread about how his AD was able to keep one 5550P for him even if he passed on it before.  What a good AD!  Anyway, Kari told me to go for it!   Ok, If Kari is happy with it then it would indeed be a special watch.  The hunt was on! and today I received my watch and a dream come true.

My initial impression is that it's a thin watch! nice face and I love the watch.  Thanks Kari for the advice and the assistance you gave me!

About the Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5140

The Patek Philippe Reference 5140 is a perpetual calendar wristwatch, succeeding the highly regarded Reference 3940. It maintains the classic Patek Philippe perpetual calendar layout, featuring day, date, month, leap year, and moon phase indications. The 5140 was introduced with a slightly larger case diameter than its predecessor, reflecting contemporary preferences while retaining a traditional aesthetic.

This reference is powered by the ultra-thin self-winding Caliber 240 Q, known for its micro-rotor construction which allows for a slender case profile. The movement provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The watch is presented in 18k white gold, rose gold, or yellow gold cases, measuring 39 mm in diameter, and is fitted with a sapphire crystal. It offers water resistance to 30 meters.

The 5140 appeals to collectors seeking a modern perpetual calendar with a direct lineage to Patek Philippe's established complications. Its production run from 2006 to 2019 saw various dial configurations, including opaline and silvery finishes. The watch is typically paired with a leather strap and a deployant clasp, consistent with Patek Philippe's classic offerings.

Very nice story, wonderful watch, congrats

You took your time to go for it, you did not think about speculation, you just followed your heart and your passion. The watch will not sleep in a bank vault but will enjoy great wrist time with you making you both happy. You are not having the necessary connexions at PP or with a specific AD since you are not a regular buyer, but you are sincere in your passion, you made your homework, you had the excellent idea to liaise with the right Purist friend (thank you to him ) and this what I like in

An excellent choice and a great story about how your persistence has paid off !

This watch is very thin and has a nice heft to it. Enjoy and think of a nice explanation to your annual calendar why it will now has less wrist time. LOL! Cheers, Gordon
