In the world of haute horology, subtle distinctions often define a reference's unique character and desirability. WatchProSite member woodman initiates a crucial discussion for Patek Philippe collectors, seeking to clarify the nuanced differences between the ivory dial of the Ref. 5227 and the cream dial of the Ref. 5320. This exploration highlights how even slight variations in dial color can significantly impact a watch's aesthetic and collector appeal.

I have not had a chance to see them side by side but have seem both in flesh... but can't really tell the difference between the two!
Maybe some collectors have both piece for a photo shoot that can help me shed some light on this matter?!

About the Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time Ref. 5164

The Patek Philippe Aquanaut reference 5164, known as the Travel Time, introduces a dual time zone complication to the Aquanaut collection. This reference maintains the distinctive rounded octagonal case shape and integrated strap design characteristic of the Aquanaut line, while adding practical functionality for travelers. It represents a more complex offering within the Aquanaut family, catering to those who require a sophisticated yet robust timepiece for global use.

The 5164A-001 variant features a stainless steel case measuring 40.8 mm in diameter and 10.2 mm in thickness. It houses the self-winding caliber 324 S C FUS movement, which provides a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers water resistance up to 120 meters. The dial is typically black embossed, and the watch is secured by a composite strap with a fold-over clasp.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a Patek Philippe with a practical complication suitable for daily wear and travel. Its stainless steel construction and composite strap make it a durable option compared to more formal complications. The Travel Time function, indicated by two skeletonized hour hands for home and local time, along with day/night indicators for both, positions the 5164 as a highly functional piece within the broader Patek Philippe sports watch catalog.

about two years ago. It was a fine specimen. Best Thomas P.S.: Forgive the plastic but it wasn’t allowed to put it away.

the wheels for month and day in dial colour. I wonder if it would reduce the readability but it would look great for sure.

where the date, day and month windows perfectly match the dial without impairing readability. So I guess it could work.
