Gerard (jlux) kicks off the week by showcasing his Patek Philippe 5170G, highlighting its excellent proportions and versatility for casual wear. His post invites fellow collectors to appreciate how this reference, often seen as formal, can be styled for everyday elegance. This discussion explores the nuances of collecting and personalizing one of Patek Philippe's notable chronographs.

The Chronograph reference 5170, introduced in 2010, marked a significant development for Patek Philippe as it was the first serially produced chronograph to feature a fully in-house manufactured movement. This reference succeeded the reference 5070, transitioning from a Lemania-based caliber to a proprietary design, underscoring the brand's commitment to integrated manufacturing for its complications. It represents a modern interpretation of a classic chronograph layout within the Patek Philippe catalog.
The reference 5170 features a case measuring 39.4 mm in diameter and 10.9 mm in thickness, available in 18k white, rose, or yellow gold. It is equipped with the manual-winding caliber CH 29-535 PS, which offers a power reserve of 65 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to 30 meters. The movement is visible through a sapphire case back, showcasing its intricate finishing.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a contemporary Patek Philippe chronograph with an in-house movement. Early variants, such as the yellow gold reference 5170J-001, featured a pulsometer scale, which was later replaced by a minute track on subsequent iterations. The various metal options and dial configurations provide distinct aesthetic choices for collectors, reflecting different periods of its production run.
I wear with some colored straps to give a bit of informality to it. A beautiful and charming watch in any of its variants I feel. Keep loving and enjoying it so much! Best, Abel. Mine says hello
...so, all the best from my workdesk
At the time when I purchased mine this dial variant was not yet available and it would have been difficult for me to decide between the silver and black dial! For sure yours is easier to combine with more colorful strap variants (superb btw with this red strap) !!
I was hunting for the white but couldn´t refuse the opportunity of buying mine as it was in an AD at a very special price and the only one available as they were closing their shop. I didn´t think twice as both variants are so beautiful. I´m glad you like these straps that I ordered from Camile Fournet as I find the original black ones too formal and "too much black" for my taste. Keep enjoying your beauuty so much! Cheers! Abel
tachometer dial). Shown with the perfect strap in a wonderful image. Just beautiful! Enjoy!
... on the last days of year 2019. It was reglettably the closing of the only local PP AD and I couldn´t refuse that unique opportunity (and price!). It was an epic exciting story indeed and I closed a deal with this watch and a 5369G too. I´ll tell you the complete story when we meet. Abrazos amigo mio! Abel
