Amanico celebrates 11 years of ownership with his beloved Patek Philippe 5110P World Time, declaring it his favorite Patek, even over the 5070. He articulates why the 5110, introduced in 2000, remains superior to later iterations due to its harmonious case-to-dial ratio and exquisite platinum dial decoration. This post is a testament to enduring horological affection and a detailed comparison of World Time references.
The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5130, introduced in 2006, is a World Time watch that succeeded the popular reference 5110. This model maintained the distinctive World Time complication, allowing for simultaneous display of time in 24 different time zones. Its design evolved with a slightly larger case and updated dial aesthetics, distinguishing it from its predecessor while retaining the core functionality that defines Patek Philippe's travel timepieces. It was produced until 2017.
The watch features an 18k rose gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm in thickness, housing the self-winding Caliber 240 HU movement. This ultra-thin movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is silver or opaline with a guilloché center, protected by a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.
Reference 5130 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated travel complication from Patek Philippe. Its larger case size compared to the 5110 offered a more contemporary presence on the wrist, while its classic World Time mechanism remained a hallmark of the brand's technical prowess. The model was available in various precious metals, with the rose gold variant offering a warm aesthetic.
...i actually started with the 5130P....then I got the 5110Y......i ended up selling them both to get the 5110G......yes, the reference is a wonder. I have to say, it wouldn't eclipse the 5070 for me, but I do get completely the infatuation. Greetings from mine....
As for the 5070, to me, it is not a reference in the world of Chronographs. There are finer, more refined than the 5070, such as the JLC Duometre or the Lange Datograph. Still, it is a cool one. And a very cool one, I agree. The 5110 is a reference in the world time category. What is better than a 5110? The Vacheron? More complex, mechanically, but it doesn't have the charm and the sensuality of the Patek. The JLC Geophysic WT? Very nice, very cool, too, and original, also. But the Patek is a st
The 5110 is one of the all-time best Patek;s. One of my regrets that I passed on it when I had an opportunity to get it. CC
simple and efficient, all I love I didn't know you were into Patek too.
is one of the greats of Patek. However, I like even more 5575G. If that only would be platinum... Best Kari
The 5110G for the 5070G????
