Blomman Mr Blue marks his 30,000th forum post by introducing his first Patek Philippe, a Ref. 5110P World Time. This significant acquisition represents a new chapter in his collecting journey, moving from his established focus on Jaeger-LeCoultre and Girard-Perregaux into the world of Patek Philippe.
Friends,
Most of the “old-timer’s” here may think of me as a Jaeger-LeCoultre collector, more recently I have been hanging a lot in the Girard-Perregaux forum…
Now at my 30.000 post I thought I should come and introduce myself here in the Patek Philippe forum!
Patek is another brand, like the two previous mentioned, with a long and rich history of watchmaking.
Something that appeal to me as watch lover and collector.
One of the complications that Patek is well-known for is their WorldTime.
A both useful and romantic complication.
Useful to be able to tell time all over the world in a glance…
Romantic in the sense that it makes you dream of travels to far away exotic places!
There are several WorldTime from modern year’s, but the one that caught my attention is the 5110 and for a long time I was convinced that White Gold/G was the one for me…
But, as you might know… I love blue!
So, in the end I opted for the Platinum/P, (another victim
from the Zagreb GTG
).

The blue tone of the 5110 P Guilloche dial does not really show in my photos, but in the right light, the blue is just magic!

The Guilloche pattern on the inner dial is superb.

The short diamond shaped sword hands look like they have been inspired by some of Patek’s earlier WorldTime creations.

Both the city names and their corresponding time are easy to read.
The "hidden" diamond between the lugs.

The crown guard that makes the 37mm case look somewhat asymmetric. 37mm, perfect size for an elegant dress watch.

The WorldTime adjustment pusher at ten.

What can I say?
A beautiful package wrapped in a dark blue alligator strap.
Only thing I am not head over heels about with this watch, is the folding buckle.
It looks good, but like (almost all) folding buckles, it doesn’t fit my wrist perfectly.

I prefer the pin buckle, something which should not be too hard to solve.
The closest contender to the 5110 P for me was the 5130 P. Why the 5110 P and not the 5130 P?
Two key points;
1) The Guilloche patterns. While I love the pattern of the 5110, I am less enthusiastic of the 5130 patterns.
2) The city rings. Too much air around the city names.
The larger case size of the 5130 would not have caused any problem for my 17.5 cm wrist, but I prefer the smaller, more elegant case of the 5110.
I also find the case/movement ratio of the 5110 is better than of the 5130, as both share the same, Calibre 240 movement.

I like to end this 30.000 post with a “Blomman” wrist shot with matching dark blue sky.

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5130, introduced in 2006, is a World Time watch that succeeded the popular reference 5110. This model maintained the distinctive World Time complication, allowing for simultaneous display of time in 24 different time zones. Its design evolved with a slightly larger case and updated dial aesthetics, distinguishing it from its predecessor while retaining the core functionality that defines Patek Philippe's travel timepieces. It was produced until 2017.
The watch features an 18k rose gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm in thickness, housing the self-winding Caliber 240 HU movement. This ultra-thin movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is silver or opaline with a guilloché center, protected by a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.
Reference 5130 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated travel complication from Patek Philippe. Its larger case size compared to the 5110 offered a more contemporary presence on the wrist, while its classic World Time mechanism remained a hallmark of the brand's technical prowess. The model was available in various precious metals, with the rose gold variant offering a warm aesthetic.
