The 5100 remains one of my favorite Patek Philippe modern references and, after having dedicated a separate thread to the rose gold, the yellow gold and the platinum variants, I now want to complete the tribute by celebrating the last one, which is also the only one I've never seen in real life: the white gold variant.

The shaped "manta ray" case is really unique and beautiful.

I'm not particularly fond of blue dials, but this one looks really nice, sunburstprofound and not too bright.

The manual wind shaped calibre 28-20/200 PS IRM is a beauty to look at and it has a 10-day power reserve.

Among the 3,000 examples made of ref. 5100, 1,500 units were crafted in yellow gold, 750 in rose gold, 300 in platinum and finally 450 in white gold, which makes this variant the second rarest one.

And this watch, designed to celebrate the year 2000 and the third millenium is also a chronometer, COSC certified.

About the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5100

The Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 5100 was introduced in 2000 as a limited edition to commemorate the new millennium. This reference stands out within the Calatrava line for its distinctive 'Manta Ray' shaped case, departing from the more traditional round Calatrava forms. It was produced in very limited quantities across different precious metals, making it a notable special edition for collectors of the brand.

The 5100 features a manual-wind caliber 28-20/220, a movement specifically developed for this model, known for its elongated form to fit the unique case shape. The case is characterized by its rectangular, slightly curved profile with integrated lugs, and it is fitted with a sapphire crystal. The specific variant mentioned, the 5100P-001, is crafted in platinum.

This reference appeals to collectors who appreciate Patek Philippe's limited-production commemorative pieces and those drawn to watches with distinctive case designs. Its unique aesthetic and the bespoke movement developed for it position the 5100 as a significant, albeit unconventional, entry in the brand's modern history, particularly for enthusiasts of shaped timepieces.

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

Your photo shows how versatile the WG variant can be: with this light blue fabric strap it looks really sporty. And I think this versatility is very unique to this particular blue dial/white metal case combo. Have a great weekend. Best, Emmanuel

You are on a slippery slope. I feel a certain passion for this reference, here. :)))

To answer your question, I am torn between white gold and platinum. But the yellow gold is far rom being a second choice. Its dial is just tops... Best, mon ami. Nicolas

Someone recently poured some gasoline on my passion for this reference ! ;-)

The grainy dial of the YG is definitely very appealing.
