sgfrkk96 initiates a compelling discussion on the Patek Philippe Ref. 5036, a reference gaining renewed interest among collectors. His inquiry delves into the nuances of precious metal preferences and the watch's long-term liquidity, offering a valuable perspective for both seasoned enthusiasts and those new to high horology. This article synthesizes community insights to help readers navigate the complexities of collecting and investing in such a distinguished timepiece.

The Patek Philippe reference 5035 introduced the annual calendar complication to the brand's regular production lineup, marking a significant development in accessible high horology. This reference automatically accounts for months with 30 or 31 days, requiring manual adjustment only once a year at the end of February. Its introduction provided collectors with a sophisticated calendar function that was more practical for daily wear than a perpetual calendar, yet still showcased Patek Philippe's technical prowess.
The 5035 features a 37 mm case, offered in 18k yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold, with a smooth bezel. It is powered by the automatic caliber 315 S IRM QA, which includes a power reserve indicator, date, and small seconds. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch is water resistant to 25 meters.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a historically important Patek Philippe annual calendar. Its design is characterized by a balanced dial layout, typically in silver, with sub-dials for the month, day, and date, along with a power reserve indicator. The 5035 was produced from 1996 to 2006, establishing the annual calendar as a core complication within the Patek Philippe collection.
...but that's probably just me : )
I prefer the 5146. It just does the things a little better. The Arabics balance the date out a little.
...still don't love the date, but at least they framed it. The subdials always looked too close to the center for me...
Generally, it's why I liked the 5396R-012 or 5396G-014 for the 'classic' annual calendar look, even though I was never convinced about the 24h hand. I would've preferred their white/blue aperture system for distinguishing day/night; it's more elegant.
...I also prefer these dauphine hands... I don't know what PP were thinking as they have plenty of historic examples...
I bought all three new from authorized dealers. Sold them all because neither could keep time with any precision. I kept sending them for adjustment to no avail. Moreover, I don’t believe it’s worth to pay extra for a gold bracelet on that reference. By the way, I’m not the buy/sell type. I tend to keep all watches I buy.
