Time to watch shares the exciting arrival of his Patek Philippe 175th Anniversary rare handcraft timepiece, offering a unique perspective on these special editions. His post highlights specific details about the packaging and features, contrasting them with other anniversary models, and sparking a community discussion about the craftsmanship and exclusivity of these pieces.

Well my 175th Anniversary piece just arrived and I'm elated!
All of the anniversary watches are special in their own right,
but this one in particular tugged at my heartstrings and had me dreaming.

On a side note the rare handcraft anniversary pieces :
1. Do not have a special presentation box, just the regular production one.
2. Do not have any special paperwork
3. Do not come with an anniversary deployant clasp, just the regular tang buckle
4. Do not come with a commemorative coin.

In fact the only feature that identifies this watch as part of the 175th collection
is the engraving on the case back. But unlike the other pieces in the collection
the rare handcraft pieces come with a hinged dust cover!
And as one starts to consider the nature of this watch it becomes evident that,
less is more.
The hinge for the dust cover is integrated into the case ala 5227.
Brushed center, polished lip, pure poetry.
The real attraction however is dial side, an engraved dial depicting
scenes of Geneva harbor and the old Lake Geneva barques.
But the scene changes depending on lighting and angle.
Here it seems like a night sky over a moon lit lake?
While in the picture below a cloudy rainy day can be imagined.
Different angles, coupled with different lighting gives a different interpretation.
I couldn't think of a more apropos theme than the one contained within this dial
to celebrate this 175th anniversary.
The Breeze and Storm ref. 5089-013G ticks all the boxes in my book.

Sincerely
H.

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5227

The Patek Philippe Reference 5227, introduced in 2013, is characterized by its officer's style case with an invisibly-hinged dust cover, a feature that distinguishes it within the brand's Calatrava collection. This design element provides a protective cover for the sapphire case back, offering a blend of traditional watchmaking aesthetics and modern functionality. The reference maintains a classic Patek Philippe design language, appealing to collectors who appreciate understated elegance and technical refinement without overt display.

The watch features a 39 mm case with scalloped lugs, housing the automatic caliber 26-330 S C, which provides central seconds and a date display. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal case back, which is protected by the aforementioned hinged dust cover. The case thickness is 9.24 mm. The power reserve for this caliber is between 35 and 45 hours. The reference has been produced in various precious metals, including white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold.

Reference 5227 appeals to collectors seeking a discreet yet technically accomplished timepiece. Its design lineage connects it to other significant Patek Philippe models, such as the Perpetual Calendar Reference 5327, through shared case characteristics. The white gold variant, Reference 5227G-001, was discontinued in 2019, while other metal versions remain in the current catalog, indicating its continued relevance and appeal within the brand's offerings.

With your previous post, you really had me guessing which one you were going to get. A handicraft watch did not cross my mind, and hence it was a real pleasant surprise!! Thinking more, it all made sense because this piece is complementary to your 5077 engraved dial. Enjoy!! The big question is "what's next"? It would be hard to beat the engraving on this commemorative piece! LOL!! Cheers Gordon Lau
