Amanico initiates a compelling debate comparing the Panerai Radiomir PAM 720 and PAM 721, focusing on the aesthetic impact of dial text. His preference for the 720's 'wording' over the 721's 'empty' dial challenges conventional wisdom, prompting collectors to articulate their own views on Panerai's minimalist design philosophy. This discussion is essential for understanding the subtle distinctions that define collector preferences within the brand.

I think I am in the minority, here, but after having seen several times the PAM 721, I think I prefer the 720. I know it is less special, with its wording on the dial, but I love this wording, it is not too much, and I find the PAM 721 strangely empty, a feeling I don't have with the PAM 249 aka California dial.

What is your preference, here?

But I think I'm with you, and I would choose the 720 too. The 721 feels kind of empty with such a big dial. I guess it''s just a matter of taste, both look great. Vte

Do not shoot me but IMO the 721 hits too close to the Panerai "homages" out there

But could have easily gone for the 720 had the 721 been sold out first.

... which makes it less like any watch I've seen -- though the point made about homages is a good one! As an old guy, I used to see people wearing fake Panerais in the '90s and some of them were blank like the 721. I wasn't a watch guy back then and wondered what people were doing with these big, flashy clocks on their wrists. Then I began to learn about watches and Panerai's history with the Italian Navy, as well as to understand and appreciate the simple, functional aesthetic. The 721 may not

The OBVIOUS choice is the 721, but when I had the chance to experience them side-by-side, the cool factor of having an anonymous dial is trumped by the fact it feels like it needs something. Perhaps if the 721 carried 70 years of scratches to the plexi and an amazing strap I would have all the look I was hoping for, but if I were choosing brand new today, I would choose the 720.
