Chronometer (aka yacomino) recently found himself in an enviable position, encountering four highly sought-after Panerai Radiomir models β the PAM 931, 685, 720, and 721 β all available at his authorized dealer. This rare opportunity sparked a lively debate among collectors about which of these distinctive references represents the ultimate choice. Chronometer's post invites the community to weigh in on this challenging decision, offering a unique glimpse into the nuances that differentiate these iconic timepieces.

The Panerai Radiomir PAM00720 is a special edition that draws inspiration from historical Radiomir models, distinguished by its specific dial execution and case details. It is part of a series that pays homage to the brand's early designs, offering a distinct aesthetic that appeals to collectors seeking a vintage-inspired piece within the contemporary Radiomir collection. This reference stands out for its particular blend of historical cues and modern manufacturing, making it a notable entry for those appreciating the evolution of Panerai's design language.
The PAM00720 features a polished steel case, characteristic of many Radiomir models, maintaining a substantial presence on the wrist. It is equipped with a hand-wound mechanical movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, allowing appreciation of the finishing. The watch is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal over the dial, enhancing its vintage appeal and providing robust protection. The design prioritizes legibility and a classic profile, consistent with the Radiomir lineage.
This reference holds appeal for collectors interested in limited or special edition Panerai watches that reference the brand's heritage. Its specific dial configuration and production numbers contribute to its collectibility, positioning it as a desirable option alongside other vintage-inspired Radiomir offerings like the PAM00685 and PAM00721. The PAM00720 offers a particular interpretation of the Radiomir aesthetic, making it a considered choice for enthusiasts looking for a distinctive piece within the broader Panerai catalog.
That said, the 931 is so cool...π
A great combination of variety and classic history. Best Andreas
I really like the 720 and 685. I think i would take the 685 which has a very nice profile and gorgeous hands. Plus, a nearly flat plexy. The 30m water resistance is deceptive.
Conventional Panerai collectorism would choose the 721 for the Kampschwimmer back story, less is more mantra, and on and on. Itβs a nice watch, but unless its a real genuine Kampfschwimmer from the 1930s, I find the contemporary piece to be just a big empty watch. The Radiomir Panerai script of the 720 makes for a little more visual interest for me personally. This might not help your Boutique sell a watch, but given that you have a 372, I would probably stay away from either of these and enjoy
The honey colored Cali dial is so 'friendly', it just makes me smile. Cheers Marc
And the case design of a radiomir with wire is historically the first evolution. To me that design is pretty elegant and fun to wear. My strap is I think 26mm. Not sure though . I could ask.
