Subexplorer's post highlights the Panerai PAM 650, a distinctive white-dial Luminor Daylight model, which challenges the brand's traditional aesthetic. This piece, part of the exclusive PAM 786 Set, offers a unique perspective on Panerai's design evolution and limited-edition strategies. His insights into its acquisition and the set's appeal provide valuable context for collectors interested in the brand's less conventional offerings.

The Panerai Luminor PAM649 is a notable reference within the Luminor collection, distinguished by its inclusion in the exclusive "Pam 786 Set" offered in 2016. This set also featured the PAM650 Luminor Daylight and was presented in a substantial wooden box, which included a "Maiale" scale model. The PAM649 is specifically recognized as a black Destro model, indicating its left-handed crown configuration, a feature that appeals to a specific segment of collectors. Its presentation as part of a limited edition set underscores its particular positioning within the brand's offerings.
The PAM649 features a case crafted from stainless steel, characteristic of many Luminor models, providing a robust and substantial presence on the wrist. The watch is powered by a manual wind movement, consistent with Panerai's historical and contemporary practices for certain references, offering a direct connection to the watch's operation. The crystal protecting the dial is sapphire, known for its scratch resistance, ensuring durability and clear legibility. The dial is presented in black, providing a high contrast background for the luminous markers.
This reference appeals to collectors interested in limited edition sets and specific case configurations, such as the Destro layout. Its association with the PAM786 set, which included another distinct Luminor model and a collectible scale model, adds to its appeal as a comprehensive collector's item. The PAM649 represents a specific moment in Panerai's production, offering a variant that stands apart from standard production models through its limited availability and unique packaging.
The Pre Vendome 5218-207a Blue Daylight was a Legendary Reference with supposedly only 4 known to exist.
very exclusive set, which looks great. I hardly know anything about Panerai, unfortunately, but I definitely understand the appeal of each watch and of this presentation box including a torpille model! I wish you a great weekend. Best, Emmanuel
Before seeing the watches side by side, I didn’t realize that the numerals on the Daylight have a different style/font compared to the Black Seal.
The white and blue definitely fit wonderfully into the landscape here of the last few days 😁❄️ Joking aside, it’s an intriguing and very optically pleasing combination 👌🏻👍🏻
having read 7 somewhere but that's not important. It remains the first white dial in Panerai's history. The prototype was created on Sly Stallone's request, for his movie "Daylight". He didn't like the "blue" prototype and asked for a different one. Probably, in a fiery tunnel in NYC the blue one, would have looked a bit....frilly???
ha ha ha Yes! May be too frily sight inside that dangerous NY tunnel!! Lol! A big hug for you my dear friend. Abel
