Nicolas (amanico) shares his admiration for the Panerai Mare Nostrum PAM 603, highlighting its imposing 52mm presence and aesthetic appeal. He reflects on the challenge of its size, a common point of discussion for this reference, and expresses a desire for a smaller version. This post delves into the design philosophy of large watches and collector preferences within the Panerai community.

For me, this is the best next thing after the Prototype.

This watch is just incredible, in terms of presence, strength, character, and... Beauty.

Look at this dial...

When I saw the steel version, in 2010, I wanted it, I tried it, and I really tried to find a solution to wear it. I just couldn't and it broke my heart, as if Panerai opted for a 4 mm smaller case, I would have gone for it.

The 2010 version, with its Minerva movement:

Without any hesitation.

Please, Panerai... 47, or 48 mm, please...

Best,

Nicolas

About the Panerai Mare Nostrum Titanio Ref. PAM603

The Panerai Mare Nostrum PAM603 is a re-edition that draws inspiration from a historical prototype chronograph. This specific reference is notable for its substantial case dimensions and its limited production, making it a distinct piece within the brand's contemporary offerings. It represents a modern interpretation of a design concept from the brand's archives, adapted for contemporary collectors.

The PAM603 features a 52mm brushed titanium case, providing a significant wrist presence. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 30 meters. The watch houses the Calibre OP XXV, a hand-wound mechanical movement that is based on a Minerva รฉbauche, offering a power reserve of 55 hours. The movement is visible through a sapphire case back.

This reference appeals to collectors who appreciate Panerai's historical connections and large-format timepieces. Its limited edition status of 150 pieces and the use of a Minerva-derived movement contribute to its appeal among enthusiasts. The PAM603 stands as a tribute to an early design, reinterpreted with modern materials and a high-grade movement.

And if it is ever scaled down, I am in. Let's not lose hope. Panerai has shown time and time again they will do things that generate huge revenue for the brand (example - "No more Bronze watches!... except the 2 new ones we will bring in the next few years..."). I would not call it a brand I respect like I used to, but that is perfectly OK. Just give the fans what they want and they will buy it. This is a fashion brand now, and has been for some time. Here, in 47mm, I would jump in.

the MD of a public company, nowadays MUST generate HUGE revenues. Failing to do so results in dismissal of employees/workers and eventually...closure or relocation to....China. Accusing a company of making money sounds pretty...weird LOLLLLLL I think that Panerai should stick to the 42 and 52mm sizes for the MN. I like originals/traditional stuff. Should they decide to make 40/45/47 sizes I'm sure they would sell quite a bit. But that would bring us back to the....doing things to gererate huge r

Many, many watch collectors are so far from reality for criticizing these companies. Good for them for doing what they can to earn more, no objections here.
