I’m not a Panerai guy and so I missed this release at Watches & Wonders 2025, but SJX have just published a hands on review and it seems like a visually interesting and technically accomplished watch:

- 44mm in platinum (so not one for lovers of small, light watches!), but it’s not just any platinum, it has a surfacing hardening treatment to make it more scratch resistant;

- day, date, second time zone and am/pm indicator on the front;

- month, year, leap year and power reserve on the back to keep the dial clean;

- speaking of the dial, it’s translucent so that you can see the day and date discs (it may not be to everyone’s taste but, personally, I like the look);

- the perpetual calendar is operated via the crown (so no pushers) and it can be adjusted forwards, or backwards, and at any time of the day without damaging the calendar mechanism;

- it’s got hacking seconds, but also with a return to zero mechanism to make it easy to set against a reference time;

- it’s powered by an automatic movement with a micro rotor and has a 72 hour  power reserve.

All in all, I think it looks and sounds like a very impressive watch. Well done Panerai!

About the Panerai Luminor Perpetual Calendar GMT Ref. PAM01575

The PAM01575 represents Panerai's ambitious entry into haute horlogerie complications, building upon the foundational Luminor design that has anchored the brand since the 1990s revival. While Panerai built its modern reputation on robust dive watches with simple time-only or GMT functions, this perpetual calendar demonstrates the manufacture's technical evolution under Richemont ownership. The model bridges Panerai's military instrument heritage with contemporary Swiss watchmaking sophistication, though it departs significantly from the brand's historical focus on legibility and tool watch functionality.

The technical execution centers on a perpetual calendar complication that tracks day, date, month, and leap year cycles, integrated with GMT functionality for dual time zone display. The movement represents a significant engineering challenge given Panerai's signature cushion case architecture, which traditionally housed simpler calibers. The dial maintains Panerai's characteristic sandwich construction and luminous Arabic numerals, though the addition of multiple subdials creates visual density that contrasts with the brand's minimalist DNA. The crown guard system, derived from historical Radiomir cases, remains functionally intact despite the increased case complexity.

As a limited production piece, the PAM01575 occupies Panerai's highest price tier and targets serious collectors rather than the brand's traditional enthusiast base. The perpetual calendar complication positions this reference among Panerai's most technically ambitious offerings, though it faces market challenges given the brand's association with sports watches rather than dress complications. Collectors view such pieces as evidence of Panerai's manufacturing capabilities, though long-term collectibility remains uncertain given the departure from core brand values.

Not bad looking at all, my friend. BUT I would well see that dial in a more classic case.

I was wondering why they didn’t put this in a 1940 case instead🤔

Or inventing a more conventional case for such complications...

I think the style would look good in most cases 😀

Perhaps if they lost the crown guard and slim that case down to 40 mm it would be a hit

Let’s compromise at 42mm!
