Not at the level of a Logo Pre V or a Marina Militare Pre V, but still, a superb reference.

And this Grey-ish PVD, typical from the Pre Vendome Era...

A charm.

Best,

Nicolas

About the Panerai Luminor Ref. 5218-209

The Panerai 5218-209, often referred to as a "Pre-Vendome" model, represents a specific period in the brand's history before its acquisition by Vendome (Richemont Group). This reference is part of the early civilian production, distinct from the more limited Logo or Marina Militare Pre-V models, yet it carries the characteristic design language that defines Panerai's aesthetic. It is recognized for its robust construction and the specific PVD coating applied to its case.

This particular reference features a 44mm steel case, which is treated with a greyish PVD coating, a finish typical of certain Pre-Vendome releases. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to 300 meters. Powering the timepiece is the Calibre Unitas 6497, a hand-wound mechanical movement known for its reliability and large balance wheel, providing a power reserve of approximately 41 hours.

For collectors, the 5218-209 holds significance as an accessible entry point into the Pre-Vendome era, offering a distinct aesthetic with its PVD-coated case. While not as rare as some of its counterparts from the same period, it embodies the foundational design principles that would later become synonymous with the brand. It appeals to those seeking a piece of Panerai's formative years, showcasing the brand's early independent production and design choices.

Wouldn’t it be fun to see that one along with my 202/A and some of Sergio's collection? Kent

I.M.O. unjustly, the pariah among the Pre-V offerings. I think it has to do with the presence of the second's counter which, in a dial that small, meant the sacrifice of the.....9. I've never met a true-blue-Panerista that grew up dreaming of owning a 203A. I would put it just one place above the....207A (which is the bottom of the barrel of the Pre-V production) IMO
