Sergio's thought-provoking post, "Glass houses....", delves into the double-edged sword of transparency in the age of social media, particularly as it pertains to luxury watch brands like Panerai. He explores the heightened scrutiny companies face today compared to their historical counterparts and questions the motivations behind some online critiques. Sergio, a long-time Panerai collector, shares his personal stance on recent brand decisions, sparking a rich discussion on brand trust, technical specifications, and the role of influencers.
Whatever you write on a social media channel, is bound to find a number of..followers. The responsability of the writers, bloggers or (my teeth are already gritting as I write the following word) INFLUENCERS, should be based on intellectual honesty and integrity. It's very simple to take things out of context and go to town on them. If Panerai or a myriad of other young companies, will still be in business 50 or 100 years down the road, they might look back at this particular period of their business life as: the time when youthful mistakes were made. When Omega or Longines or Zenith or Rolex were 25 years old companies, there were but a handful of people that KNEW what type of faux pas they might have perpetrated. A handful of people that had no chance of splashing these abominiums all over the place. A handful of people that might have not even have been "bothered" by it and accepted it supinely. Who knows? No bloggers, no influencers, no super duper sleuths on "the bone". After all that, let me be absolutely clear about my personal position on Panerai. I have bought the last of my 36 Panerais (some of them no longer with me) in 2014 and that is exactely what will remain: THE LAST. I don't see eye to eye on several decisions that were made, in the Panerai's "buttons room", over the last few years and I have signified it by simply no buying their products anymore. I simply will not join any "tarring and feathering" festival, be it against Panerai or Sergio's Corp or Sergio's Inc or Whatchamicallit LTD etc etc. in order to regale the world with MY truth
The Panerai PAM100 is a distinctive model within the brand's offerings, notable for its departure from the more utilitarian aesthetic often associated with Panerai. This reference presents a refined interpretation, emphasizing precious materials and a sophisticated dial treatment. It caters to collectors seeking a Panerai that blends the brand's characteristic case design with a luxurious presentation, distinguishing it from tool-watch oriented references.
This particular reference features a 40mm pink gold case, providing a substantial yet wearable presence. The watch is equipped with a mechanical movement, offering a power reserve suitable for daily wear. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance. The construction reflects a commitment to traditional watchmaking standards, with attention to both material selection and finishing.
The PAM100 appeals to collectors interested in Panerai's exploration of high-end materials and finishes. Its diamond dial further positions it as a piece for special occasions or as a statement watch within a collection. This reference represents a facet of Panerai's production that broadens its appeal beyond its traditional military-inspired designs, offering a more opulent option for enthusiasts.
Clearly something more is behind this.
and I'll leave it at that, since is just matter of personal preferences
As you are the Panerai Moderator Can I ask why at this point you feel this way ?
And Panerai isn't the worse offender. Lots of even worse offenders out there! From small independents to large brands.
emeritus :P There are ways and ways to make sure a managing director is always on the right side of the...balance sheet. Let's say that I don't agree with the ones that past and present Panerai's M.D. have chosen. That being said it's their prerogative to do whatever they felt/feel it's right for their company. I've been a M.D./President/General Manager/C.E.O. long enough to know that. I ran my companies, the way I ran MY companies.
Deep stuff. I imagine you don't find the same enjoyment wearing your Panerais as you did 20 years ago.
