MTR's recent experience in Milan offers a compelling look into Panerai's renewed engagement with its collector community. This article delves into MTR's exclusive invitation to La Scala and subsequent interactions with Panerai leadership, providing a unique perspective on the brand's efforts to reconnect with enthusiasts. His detailed account, enriched with personal observations and stunning photography, highlights the evolving relationship between luxury watch brands and their dedicated clientele.

Now I suddenly seem to have Panerai fever again, or rather, strangely enough, this brand is now particularly chasing me.

After buying my used 127 a few years ago, my interest in Panerai waned a bit. To now fully inflame again since the end of last year….

Since my visit to the Panerai boutique in Milan last December, I stayed in touch with the lovely team there. This ultimately resulted in a personal invitation last Monday evening to a performance at La Scala in Milan to mark the opening of the Salone del Mobile 2023.

Following this cultural event, including breathtaking ballet performances, a small group of twelve people (two high-ranking Panerai managers, Giuseppe and his colleague from Store Milano and some very nice watch collectors) went to the great BOEUCC ANTICO RISTORANTE (founded in 1696!).

After a fantastic meal, there was also a lot of talk about Panerai and many beautiful pieces were shown to one another.

Of course, I also made two longer (πŸ™πŸ™„) visits to the Panerai boutique in Milano.

In addition to the tourbillons, which fascinate me (dear purists: I know, tourbillon and Panerai don't work at all. I know. I know. I know!!! πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ πŸ˜‚)

I was also allowed to look at some new releases and also some already known watches, which I would be very happy to share with you:

This also led to some interesting conversations, because leading Panerai managers kept showing up in the store.

And my remarks, some of which were critical, were listened to attentively. Does it do anything? No idea. But I have the impression that they are really interested in listening to customers' opinions. At least I felt … heard. 😁

And there she was again. The 670 that has been following me for a long time. Also not the β€žwet dreamβ€œ of all the purists here, I know. πŸ™

But the watch has so many things that REALLY appeal to me:
There's a lot going on on the dial. Granted. But everything is solved harmoniously and extremely tastefully: the numbers 3 - 6 - 9 - 12 are all visible. The date window is very subtle and 100% in the color of the dial.
The 670 offers also very fine, very useful features, at least for me: manual winding, 8-day power reserve (display on the back), GMT, date and month displays, 24-hour display.
The equation of time complication is at least … funny.
The whole thing in a beautiful titanium case with WR 10 bar. And the color of the dial together with the gold applications, hands and numerals is just a feast for the eyes!

The P.2002 movement has 3 spring barrels and the rate accuracy observed over the last 4,5 days is +7 seconds, which means a very good +1.5 seconds per day in the process.

I didn't want to buy anything. But I've gotten weak again. And - nevertheless - I'm very happy about my decision! ☺️

Thanks for looking and all the best, my dear friends!
Thomas

About the Panerai PAM00100 - Radiomir pink gold diamond dial Ref. PAM100

The Panerai PAM100 is a distinctive model within the brand's offerings, notable for its departure from the more utilitarian aesthetic often associated with Panerai. This reference presents a refined interpretation, emphasizing precious materials and a sophisticated dial treatment. It caters to collectors seeking a Panerai that blends the brand's characteristic case design with a luxurious presentation, distinguishing it from tool-watch oriented references.

This particular reference features a 40mm pink gold case, providing a substantial yet wearable presence. The watch is equipped with a mechanical movement, offering a power reserve suitable for daily wear. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance. The construction reflects a commitment to traditional watchmaking standards, with attention to both material selection and finishing.

The PAM100 appeals to collectors interested in Panerai's exploration of high-end materials and finishes. Its diamond dial further positions it as a piece for special occasions or as a statement watch within a collection. This reference represents a facet of Panerai's production that broadens its appeal beyond its traditional military-inspired designs, offering a more opulent option for enthusiasts.

I wish all the best to Panerai, and despite their recent issues, I'm glad to see they are investing on the communication side in a clever and effective way. Looking forward to seeing your next purchase with them! Cheers.

As you know the rule is simple: buy what you like πŸ˜… If you listen to too many purists you end up only looking at very old, rusty, grandpa style panerais.

I have the feeling that they are learning from the recent time or at least are willing to learn. And that they (now) really care about customers. During these two days at times I felt like a carp in a pike pond. But they were very nice pike! πŸ˜‰ Cheers Thomas
