Champthekid's original post delves into the contentious topic of luxury watch brands re-releasing or closely replicating limited edition models. This discussion is particularly relevant for collectors who invest in exclusive pieces, as it explores the perceived devaluation of their 'first series' watches and the broader implications for brand loyalty and collector trust. Champthekid's personal experience with the Omega Speedy Tuesday first series serves as a focal point for this ongoing debate.

The Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional represents the continuation of Omega's most celebrated chronograph lineage, tracing its roots to the original 1957 Speedmaster and its pivotal role in NASA's space program. This particular configuration maintains the essential DNA that made the Speedmaster the first watch worn on the moon, preserving the manual-wind tradition and tachymeter bezel that defined generations of space-qualified timepieces. The Professional designation carries forward the legacy of flight-qualified chronographs that served as backup instruments for critical space missions.
Technically, this 42mm iteration employs Omega's caliber 1861 movement, the direct descendant of the Lemania-based caliber 861 that powered the moon landing watches. The black dial features the classic tri-compax layout with running seconds at 9 o'clock, 30-minute recorder at 3 o'clock, and 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock. The hesalite crystal and solid caseback maintain period-correct specifications, while the applied logo and straight writing preserve the visual hierarchy that collectors associate with authentic Moonwatch heritage.
Within Omega's contemporary catalog, the Moonwatch Professional occupies a unique position as both accessible luxury and historically significant collectible. The steel bracelet configuration offers versatility while maintaining the tool watch ethos that originally attracted NASA's attention. Current market dynamics reflect strong collector interest in maintaining the manual-wind tradition, particularly as the brand has expanded the Speedmaster range with co-axial movements and ceramic bezels in other variants.
to me itโs a near exact copy of the formally exclusive Speedy Tuesday One. As an owner of that watch itโs very annoying to me. Just saying ๐
Donโt you also have the beautiful white dial 42mm?
model and thank God I sold it before the steel version came out. The only difference was the red writing on the steel version which I actually liked better. To me this behavior by watch companies is a slap in the face. Maybe Iโm overreacting, but I canโt help how this stuff makes me feel. I know watch companies can do whatever they want, but it makes me second guess future support of them.
To be followed by Part 2 which is Ultra Thin watches and what they aren't which will be about the bad faith actions of these companies. Marc.
Get well soon my friend ๐
