KMII shares a deeply personal story behind his acquisition of an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, presented as a 70th birthday gift to his father. This post highlights the emotional connection between generations of watch enthusiasts and the enduring appeal of the iconic Moonwatch. It underscores how significant life events often intertwine with horological milestones, making a watch more than just a timepiece.

This has been a confluence of events - some time ago I have entered into a gentlemen's agreement with Nilo that I shall purchase an Omega finally. At the same time my father just turned 70 today. And as he used to work in the US in the 70s for a civilian arm of NASA (selling non-space / non-military technologies developed there), I felt it was only right to get him a Moonwatch as a present for this occassion. And then there were three further Purists engaged. Art, whose advice I very much valued (even though I did not fully follow it in the end). And Magnus and Adam, who have made the process easier and helped out with the little detail that count.

Massive thanks to all of you!

Still, as the watch is to go to its new owner sooner, rather than later, pictures will not be a regular feature on Omega Tuesdays yet - for that I need to get myself an Omega, too wink But getting there, Nilo smile

While this is not helping the pictures, I left the protective foil on, so it is actually birthday boy, who gets to take it off smile

Well, I guess in the 70 years my father did help pass the watch bug onto me, even if he mostly wears quartz these days (for practicality). To many happy returns for him!

Now I only hope to be able to get him to wind a watch each day - or at least regularly enough

And to stay healthy enough to enjoy it for a long time

He certainly deserves the moonwatch! As to choosing the moonwatch, I think you did the right thing. Like you, I also got a moonwatch after reading a lot about Omega Speedmaster. Certainly you can't go wrong with this one.

I was thinking long and hard but the market for relatively high end quartz watches is somewhat limited... I hope he will be as happy receiving and using it as I will be giving it

But very curious as to what specific watch you went for (if not a secret). Thanks a lot, Watchonthewrist - I hope he will wear it often
