Subexplorer's post offers a captivating glimpse into Omega's 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing event, highlighting the brand's enduring connection to space exploration. His personal reflections on the original BA145.022 and the new Moonshine version provide valuable context for collectors interested in Omega's historical Speedmaster models and their modern interpretations. This article explores the community's reactions to these significant releases and the event itself.

Last evening I had the pleasure of being invited by local Omega Boutique to a wonderful night celebrating the 50th Anniversary of First Moon Landing and introducing the new watches recently launched to commemorate this most important event for Humankind! We enjoyed a wonderful gathering with Omega representatives and fellow collectors and Speedmaster fans!

During this wonderful event I had the pleasure and unique opportunity of examining together the original BA145.022 from 1969 and the brand new Moonshine version launched this year to conmemorate that one small step for a man, one giant leap for Mankind!

The original gold Speedy worn with a simple leather straps instead of the original gold bracelet belonged to a lucky private collector.

I felt privileged to be able to examine both superb and historical Omega Speedmasters together!!

Of course I had a Speedmaster on my wrist!...

Well... actually one on each wrist! Lol!

Ref 2998 from 1962 (FAP)

I wish to thank Omega for this most enjoyable night!
Cheers! Abel

About the Omega Speedmaster Ref. CK2998

The Omega CK2998 is a chronograph model recognized for its robust design and functional aesthetic. It belongs to a lineage of chronographs that established a distinct visual identity for the brand, characterized by a clear and legible dial layout. This reference is notable for its early adoption of a tachymeter scale on the bezel, a feature that would become a hallmark of many subsequent sports chronographs.

This reference features a 39 mm stainless steel case, housing the manual-winding Caliber 321. This movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a Hesalite crystal and offers a water resistance of 60 meters. The fixed tachymeter bezel is a key design element, framing a black dial.

The CK2998 holds interest for collectors seeking early examples of Omega's chronograph development. Its design elements, including the case proportions and dial configuration, represent a significant period in the brand's history. The presence of the Caliber 321 further enhances its appeal among enthusiasts of vintage chronograph movements.
