About the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Ref. 310.30.42.50.01.002

The Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional represents the continuation of Omega's most celebrated chronograph lineage, tracing its roots to the original 1957 Speedmaster and its pivotal role in NASA's space program. This particular configuration maintains the essential DNA that made the Speedmaster the first watch worn on the moon, preserving the manual-wind tradition and tachymeter bezel that defined generations of space-qualified timepieces. The Professional designation carries forward the legacy of flight-qualified chronographs that served as backup instruments for critical space missions.

Technically, this 42mm iteration employs Omega's caliber 1861 movement, the direct descendant of the Lemania-based caliber 861 that powered the moon landing watches. The black dial features the classic tri-compax layout with running seconds at 9 o'clock, 30-minute recorder at 3 o'clock, and 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock. The hesalite crystal and solid caseback maintain period-correct specifications, while the applied logo and straight writing preserve the visual hierarchy that collectors associate with authentic Moonwatch heritage.

Within Omega's contemporary catalog, the Moonwatch Professional occupies a unique position as both accessible luxury and historically significant collectible. The steel bracelet configuration offers versatility while maintaining the tool watch ethos that originally attracted NASA's attention. Current market dynamics reflect strong collector interest in maintaining the manual-wind tradition, particularly as the brand has expanded the Speedmaster range with co-axial movements and ceramic bezels in other variants.

Thanks, Salman!

All have moved on to other people, but it was fun to collect these. The Alaska was purchased at my AD when I resided in NJ. That’s one I should have kept. That and the “holy grail” reference 376.0822 as referred to by Omega expert Chuck Maddox.
