Cpt Scarlet's post highlights a significant moment for luxury watch enthusiasts: independent watchmaker Roger Smith OBE acquiring a new Omega Speedmaster. This choice by a master craftsman in his own field sparks a compelling discussion about the perceived value and appeal of a modern, mass-produced icon versus its vintage counterparts. The community explores what such an endorsement signifies for the Speedmaster's enduring legacy and contemporary relevance.

. . . for any proposition, this would be it! Roger acquires a modern Speedy . . . kinda like Enzo getting a Civic. I've been weighing a vintage Speedy vs the current crop for a while now*. This slants the equation in favor of a new one. 🤔 * (in addition to the Ed White order placed earlier this year)
I can certainly appreciate the relationship between the co-ax Speed and Smith, but what does Enzo have in common with a Civic?
I can’t fall in love with the coax speedy… for me it’s too different from the one used to go to the moon.
might there be, I dunno, *sentimental reasons* why he'd prefer the coaxial Speedy to the 1861?
The new Speedmaster, especially the hesalite one, is very much a vintage watch you can wear every day without being too concerned.
…Buzz Aldrin gets his Roger Smith Series 4 ! ;-))
