Amanico grapples with a classic collector's dilemma: choosing between the highly sought-after Omega Speedmaster CK 2915 and its equally desirable successor, the CK 2998. As prices for both references continue to climb, he explores the nuances of each, including rare 'chocolate' and 'lollipop' dial variants. This discussion delves into the challenges and considerations of acquiring a vintage Speedmaster to complete a collection.

I would say CK 2915, just to achieve the holy trinity.

Something like that:

I was thinking that, due to the fact that prices reached the sky, maybe it would be wiser to go for a CK 2998.

Then I started to pay some interest to the CK 2998, and I fell on these 2:

Chocolate...

Or lollipop.

Knowing that I also saw a few chocolate AND lollipop...

The issue is that prices have also reached the sky for the CK 2998, especially when they are as beautiful as the two I just posted...

So, the question remains... CK 2915 or 2998?

To tell the truth, I am not fan of the Speedmaster enough to make some huge sacrifices to get it at this price point.

But this is something I have in my head, and I really want to end my vintage Omega collection with two or three more pieces.

And I feel that without a Speedmaster, it would not be complete.

Dilemmas, dilemmas...

Best,

Nicolas

About the Omega Speedmaster Ref. CK2998

The Omega CK2998 is a chronograph model recognized for its robust design and functional aesthetic. It belongs to a lineage of chronographs that established a distinct visual identity for the brand, characterized by a clear and legible dial layout. This reference is notable for its early adoption of a tachymeter scale on the bezel, a feature that would become a hallmark of many subsequent sports chronographs.

This reference features a 39 mm stainless steel case, housing the manual-winding Caliber 321. This movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a Hesalite crystal and offers a water resistance of 60 meters. The fixed tachymeter bezel is a key design element, framing a black dial.

The CK2998 holds interest for collectors seeking early examples of Omega's chronograph development. Its design elements, including the case proportions and dial configuration, represent a significant period in the brand's history. The presence of the Caliber 321 further enhances its appeal among enthusiasts of vintage chronograph movements.

I don't mind to get a Tetanus shot (rusty metal is the perfect environment for the Clostridium tetani) after wearing any of those! The "chocolate" one is to die for. To mimic you, "Why not get the trio"? Cheers, Nilo

...1) 2915, 2) 2998 Lolli 3) 2998 Chocolate. But then of course we all know that it is all about having the three of them. If we take it back to the rusty level, it would look like this (no chocolate in this series): 2915-1 2998-5 2998-3
