HSTE presents a fascinating Omega Speedmaster, highlighting its rare 'straight writing' Apollo XI case back, a transitional version from around 1970/71. The post also showcases the watch's beautifully chocolate-fading dial and a meticulously built 1969-piece Saturn V rocket model, connecting the timepiece to its iconic space heritage.
Around 1970/71, after the moon landing, Omega used 3 case back versions to transition to the current "Medallion" case back. This one is the rare "straight writing" case back in its "Apollo XI" version. Further below you see the versions "Straight Writing", "Straight Writing Apollo XI" and "No NASA".
The dial is turning chocolate, particularly on the hour-counter-subdial and to a little lesser degree on the minute-counter-subdial.
The toy model was a project I did with juniors' help during the x-mas break. It is a 1969 piece model of the Saturn V rocket that flew Apollo XI to the moon.

PS: and the photos on the wall from left to right: Wally Schirra (first Speedy in Orbit), Ed White (first Speedy in extra vehicular mission) and Buzz Aldrin (first Speedy on the moon). All originally signed by the astronauts.
