Forum member m2 shares his initial impressions of owning a modern Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, marking a significant shift from his previous focus on vintage and neo-vintage examples. His post offers a valuable comparison, highlighting the tangible advancements in contemporary Speedmaster models that new collectors and seasoned enthusiasts alike will find insightful.
Well, new to me! Oddly enough, my first time owning a newer speedmaster. Batted around with getting a different variant, but it's hard to beat the classic, especially because the color scheme works with so many different straps.
I’ve only ever owned vintages and neovintage examples, so owning a newer with all the bells and whistles like hackings seconds is nice.
The differences are pretty noticeable versus vintage and neo-vintage models. For example, the finishing is actually a lot better, albeit still obviously machine executed...you can tell they've improved their processes and I am guessing machinery over time.
The bracelet quality, including the micro adjust, is a huge step up. Personally, I prefer sapphire over the hesalite as well. Applied logo is always nice.
The chronographers pushers feel better to operate, but that could also be because the other watches I've owned were simply not as new.
Overall, glad to have a classic watch in the collection since my cofounder has my old speedy now.
