G99's post captures a heartwarming family gathering, made even more special by a shared horological passion. He highlights the Omega Speedmaster 1957 'replica' he gifted his son and subsequently acquired for himself, emphasizing the emotional connection watches can forge across generations and during significant life events. This thread beautifully illustrates how a watch can symbolize family bonds and cherished memories, making it a timeless piece for any collector.

for my sons 21st birthday 18 months ago i bought him a Speedmaster 1957 'replica' which he loves as much as his guitars and garage tools. i liked it so much that i bought another one for myself. for those that dont know, this watch was produced in quite a small number (1500) between 1998 and 2001 and was made to replicate the original 1957 Speedmaster with broad arrow hands, non professional dial, steel bezel and 1861 handwind movement. only a few were numbered and they went into the 'missions' pack suitcase full of identical watches with different dials.

as i live 200 miles from my son we dont see a huge amount of each other and when i do i always seem to have a different watch on.

on the 27th december it was my mum's 80th birthday and we managed to get the whole family together at my sisters except for my brother in Australia. my mum was quite ill 2 years ago and my dad has been extremely ill this year, only being released from hospital 2 weeks ago so it was quite an achievement and more than a logistical nightmare to get them there as we didnt want dad to drive 160 miles after surgery and the usual NHS after effects. luckily due to all the bank holidays both my son and daughter were able to attend which made very special for me.

as i knew the kids were coming i deliberately wore my speedie replica and here is the resulting double wristshot.

i wont bore you with pics of the whole family, but here is one of me with my 2 lovely children of whom i'm extremely proud with my dad in the background.

best

Graham

thankyou Vlad, he's only 22 and he's achieved more in the last 3 years than i've ever achieved in 46. he's a master technician for a ford dealership and was apprentice of the year in whole of UK last year so he has a good future ahead of him. i'm an ex cop and my only achievement is being able to wriggle out of traffic offences by knowing the law my daughter is the head chef at the royal hampshire golf club and she's only 19. it doesnt matter what they achieve, as i keep reminding them one day t
