Nicolas (amanico) presents his Omega reference 2179, a compelling vintage piece that stands apart from the brand's more commonly discussed Speedmaster, Railmaster, and Seamaster models. His post highlights the allure of exploring Omega's lesser-known, yet equally significant, historical references. This article delves into the unique characteristics and historical context of the Omega 2179, enriched by community insights.

Off the Speedmaster, Railmaster and Seamaster beathen paths.

And now, mine:

I love it so much that I should have gone for the first one, too. A pity I missed it.

Best,

Nicolas

. . . in collecting Omega. Ten thousand made for the American military, and presumably thousands more for other clients. Several variations; I've seen one black dial with leaf hands, which has got to be the rarest. Not only wider than most contemporary watches, but taller, too . . . they wear well on larger wrists. And positively large . . . . . . on smaller wrists like mine. Best, Art

. . . original examples on eBay, not to mention several that don't pass muster. One has 'US Army' engraving on the back. Interestingly enough, another is a 2179/3 without the desirable engraving. Art
