Some time ago I entered into a gentleman’s agreement with Nilo - each one of us would get a watch of the brand the other one was moderating. Or put differently, a Montblanc for him, an Omega for me. While Nilo has been very quick in upholding his end of the bargain, with two Montblanc watches to his name, I have gotten one for my father but not yet for myself. The second child intervened but now I am in a state to correct the situation. And am looking at getting the first Omega for myself smile

The question is where to start. And as I have often gotten splendid advice from Purists in terms of that very topic, here’s my specific question (would much appreciate your advice, Nilo, too)...

Looking at watches I can get directly from Omega or that are still available new, three front runners emerged.

First of all the plain vanilla regular production Railmaster from 2017:

Secondly the much loved and appreciated amongst Purists  CK2998:

And finally the Museum Collection Race End Timer:

There’s certainly a spread in terms of style, use and appeal. If it was your choice, which way would you go and why? Any others you’d throw into the consideration set?

Thanks in advance and a great weekend to all!

Any others you’d recommend?

Rather than the non-LE Railmaster, I highly recommend the 60th Anniversary Railmaster as the reference to get. You won't be sorry. It's got 100% vintage looks but is made with 100% modern materials and methods. Instead of the blue CK2998, I recommend the newer Panda CK2998 unveiled at Baselworld this year. I even recommend the non-LE FOIS (First Omega In Space) model which is what these two 2998s are based on. Finally, rather than the Museum Collection piece, I highly recommend the classic Omega

Sits quite high on my wrist and doesn’t feel comfortable as a result

And against the CK2998 and the Race End Timer, well I think the Rail Master has a stronger character, is pure in its design and the case and lugs harmonize and twist together just perfectly..

The limited edition Railmaster has two issues for me. It sits less comfortably on my wrist than the non-limited piece for one and I really do not like the highly polished finish (especially on the bracelet, case doesn’t bother me that much). Will check out the black panda CK2998 as soon as they become available, though...

The dial is certainly one of the things drawing me to the piece
