tdn.dk shares an exciting update on his Omega Jumbo acquisition, a vintage timepiece whose initial listing raised questions about its authenticity. Through diligent inquiry and the seller's cooperation, the watch's true identity as an early Calibre 30 reference 2186 from 1939 was confirmed. This post chronicles the journey of verifying a vintage watch's provenance, culminating in the anticipation of an Omega archive extract.
Hi!
Good news. I asked you for your opinion on this Jumbo 38 mm. a week ago, and then I asked the seller to open the Watch, because the announced age, caliber and case didn’t add up. Then the watch disappeared from the sales site and I thought it was sold!
But then I suddenly got a mail from the seller, he had got the case opened. He mailed pictures and everything suddenly added up! It is at cal. 30 (yes, one of the 36.000 produced) case and movement number is appox.1939, properly an early ref. 2186.
The history of the watch is: it is from a estate of an approximately 95 year old Swedish gentleman. In his house was found a box. In this box there was his war medals, soldier papers, other war items and this Omega watch. This Gentleman had served as an officer durring WW2 in Britain.
I bought the watch and it arrived today.
My next step will be to get an extract from the Omega archive to see if it is one of the many watches that was sold to the British military an delivered to the Officers and soldiers (according to Omega 100.000 cal. 30 variants was sold to the British army)
Best
Thomas
