Kong announces the OMEGA Co-Axial Exhibition in Singapore, celebrating the brand's innovative escapement technology and its historical significance. This event offers a unique opportunity for watch enthusiasts to explore the evolution of the Co-Axial escapement, from its invention by Dr. George Daniels to its industrialization by OMEGA, featuring milestone timepieces and Daniels' personal collections.

Singapore, July 2013 – To commemorate OMEGA’s pioneering spirit and dedication to the art of watchmaking, the luxury Swiss watchmaker, in partnership with Cortina Watch, will present the “OMEGA Co-Axial Exhibition” in Singapore from August 23 to September 1. The exhibition will be held on level one in the main atrium of Paragon Shopping Centre and will be opened daily from 10:30 am to 8:00 pm.

The nine-day exhibition will celebrate the innovative technology found within each of OMEGA’s exquisite mechanical timepieces and give members of the public an opportunity to witness the level of precision involved in creating each component.

Invented by the late master watchmaker, Dr. George Daniels, in the 1970s and industrialized by OMEGA’s engineers and technicians in the 1990s, the Co-Axial escapement was a vast improvement on the Swiss lever escapement and addressed the problems of lubrication that had perplexed watchmakers for centuries. It was the first practical new watch escapement in some 250 years – featuring an intermediary wheel, a double coaxial wheel, an escapement wheel and its components- and signaled a revolution in mechanical watchmaking.

The movement that gave OMEGA its name and started the OMEGA revolution,
the original movement “Calibre OMEGA” from 1894

OMEGA enthusiasts along with watch connoisseurs will be able to enjoy an informational guided audio tour through the evolution of the escapement from its revolutionizing debut in 1990s, to its integration into present-day OMEGA Co-Axial calibers.

Rendering the exhibition truly unique and for the first time in Singapore, will be a showcase of some key milestone timepieces from OMEGA’s illustrious history. For the opening weekend, OMEGA will exhibit timepieces that belonged to Dr. George Daniels.

The Speedmaster from 1974 is – the watch that G.Daniels modified himself
with his Co-Axial escapement and came to Switzerland to persuade the watch industry
to use the new escapement. He chose without influence
from OMEGA the Speedmaster automatic with Cal. 1045.

One is an Omega Speedmaster that Daniels himself fitted with an early version of the Co-Axial escapement; another is the OMEGA De Ville Co-Axial of 1999, numbered “0” and dedicated by OMEGA “To our friend George Daniels”. That watch represented the industrialization of the Co-Axial escapement and of the technology that has become such an important part of OMEGA’s story.

In 1999 OMEGA presented the industrial implementation of the Co-Axial escapement to the world in a De Ville limited edition timepiece
(999 pieces were made). We presented the very first yellow gold watch numbered 000 engraved
“To Our Friend George Daniels. From OMEGA Ltd. April 30, 1999” to Mr. Daniels.

Visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to browse and shop from the brand’s line of luxurious timepieces following their tour through OMEGA’s revolutionary Co-Axial legacy.

OMEGA has always dedicated energy and resources not only to the development of its innovative movement technology but to the materials used in its watch cases and bracelets. The exhibition will feature some of the brand’s most intriguing materials, including Liquidmetal™ and Ceragold™.

The products on display at the special exhibition are united by an underlying theme: they show that OMEGA’s mechanical innovation has been perfectly complemented by material design that has always made the watches as aesthetically pleasing as they are technically compelling.

Along with a lot of other reasons of course. Looks like a great exhibit. Daniels in my mind is right up there with Louis Breguet and other great innovators. Thanks for the info. Joseph
